Notes |
- from Michael Cooley:
"It appears that the Albemarle County/Orange County Herrings descend from a John Herring who settled in Isle of Wight County in the mid-1600s. There are two branches of the Herring Family which settled in America before the Revolution. One line came from Delaware (Alexander Herring), and settled on the western side of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The other line settled in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, in the 17th century."
