    • J.S. Guthrie Dies
James Samuel Guthrie, 81 years old, died this week at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G.P. Sanders, in New Bloomfield. He had been in failing health for seral years, due to complications and the infirmities of age, but had been confined to his bed only four days. Funeral services were held at the Christian church in New Bloomfield,, and burial was in the cemetery there.
Mr. Guthrie was born near New Bloomfield, and was a son of Robert Ewing and Jane Guthrie. He was married to Miss Laura Morray September 7, 1882. She died 16 years ago. He had spent all of his life in the New Bloomfield community, and until just recently had made his home on a farm south of New Bloomfield with his son, Leslie Guthrie. Four children survive. They are: Mrs. Sanders, Mrs. Herbert Craighead and Lester Guthrie, all of New Bloomfield, and Claude S. Guthrie of Wichita, Kan. The Guthrie family was composed of three brothers and three sisters. Two of the brothers, Dr. E.C. Guthrie of Denver, Colo., and G.R. Guthrie of Columbia, and one sister, Mrs. Mary E. Cason, of New Bloomfield, are now living.
Mr. Guthrie bore the distinction of being the oldest member of the New Bloomfield Masonic Lodge, and was awarded a jeweled medal last December for having completed 50 years of membership with that order. To make the distinction more unique, his brother, Dr. Guthrie of Denver, was awarded a similar medal at the same time for also having been a member of the New Bloomfield Masons for half a century.
