My dear Aunt:
I have been thinking of writing to you for a long while; but it seemed I could never find an opportunity. We have had so much sickness in the neighborhood, and our teacher got sick and I had to take his place for a while. So one thing after another would hinder, until this eve I was determined I would no longer put it off. My chief object in writing is to let you know of Grandma's sickness, which I know will be sad news for you. She is very bad and the Dr. came yesterday

said that she might not live any longer than two or three day's and might last a week or two. She has something like a cancer (I suppose is a cancer on her right breast. has been there ever since 1st of June. We have all been doing every thing in out power for her. I wish it was so that you and Uncle could come. She is getting weaker every hour.
Old Mr. Wise died Friday morn Nov. 21st. He was sick for several weeks. Was 87 a few days before his death.
There has also been several deaths caused by dyptheria. and several children are now sick with it in this immediate neighborhood.
