    • Mr. Merlin R. Holt, age 93 years, of Holts Summit, Mo., died Sunday, December 31, 2006, at the Missouri Veterans Home, Mexico, Mo. Mr.
      Holt was born August 26, 1913, in Holts Summit, Mo., the son of Edward and Viola Evans Holt, both deceased. He was married on October 7, 1939, in Jefferson City, Mo. to Eleanor A. Bailey, who survives.
      A life long resident of the central Missouri area, Mr. Holt was a 1932 graduate of Jefferson City High School. He served in the United States Army in the South Pacific during World War II and was awarded two bronze stars.
      He was employed as a conductor with the Missouri Pacific Railroad from 1945 until his retirement in 1976. Mr. Holt was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Roy Sone Post 1003. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.
      Other survivors include: two sons: Richard Holt and his wife Sharon of Tebbetts, Mo. and William S. Holt and his wife Janet of Holts Summit, Mo.; two granddaughters: Tanya Holt and Kara Holt; one step granddaughter: Kimberly Shuller; two step grandsons: Kent Gilleland and Klay Gilleland; six step great grandchildren: Kayle Bauer, Kenda Shuller, Tyler Gilleland, Kyle Gilleland, Kaydee Gilleland, Koby Gilleland; one great great grandchild; Kahler Bauer.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2007, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Stephen Buchholz officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Wednesday. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Missouri Veterans Home, Mexico, Mo.
