- At her residence, near Mexico, Audrain county, Mo., Mrs. Catharine Day, consort of Lewis Day; in the 52nd year of her age.
In the death of Mrs. Day, the family circle has sustained an irreparable loss; the Methodist Episcopal church, of which she was one of its brightest ornaments, has lost one of its most ____ moments would have put to blush the skeptic and deist. The calmness and composure that sat upon her brow would have convinced anyone that, "Religion is not a cunningly devised fable: but that it enabled its possessor, like the author of it, to overstep the shadows of the grave, and ride to Paradise on a balmy cloud. Those who are left to deplore her loss, doubtless feel the sentimental truth of the poet.
God gives us ministers of love
Which we regard not living near
Death takes them from us, then we feel
That angels have been with us here.
