- Exposure Caused Death.
William Craghead Found Dead Beside Chicago and Alton Track Near Callaway Station
William craghead, known as "Little Billy" Craghead, a character familiar in this county for many years, was found dead beside the Chicago and Alton railroad track near Callaway Station Saturday morning. The body was first noticed by passengers on an excursion train which left Fulton early Saturday morning, and when the train reached McCredie word was telephoned Prosecuting Attorney Harris. Coroner Yancy was notified by Mr. Harris, and that official went to the place where the body lay. The body was brought to Fulton on the morning freight train and an inquest was held over it at the city hall. The testimony of several witnesses was heard and the conclusion was reached that death was the result of exposure. From the best information obtainable, it is supposed that Craghead started from Auxvasse for the farm of Thurmond brothers where he expected to prune some fruit trees and that he passed the place and wandered along the railroad track until exhausted and that he then lay down the the storm of Friday night and was frozen to death., He was addicted to the liquor habit, and this supposition is natural. No bruises of importance were found on him, and the body gave no apprearance of foul play.
Craghead was over fifty years old. Several years ago he had one hand blown off by a giant fire-cracker and since that time he has been a rather aimless wanderer. He was well connected and burial occurred on Ham's Prairie Sunday afternoon.

- William Craghead Found Dead.
As an excursion train was going to Mexico, Saturday morning, John steele and Jack Brooks saw a man lying off from the railroad track a short distance from Callaway station. They reported the fact at McCredie station and County Attorney Harris was notified. He informed Coroner Yancy, who went out on the early passenger train andpicked up the body which proved to be William Craghead, and took it to McCredie and transferred it to the freight and brought it to Fulton where an inquest was held. Mr. Craghead was in Fulton Thursday, and left for Auxvasse to work for Thurmond Bros. and may have been under the influence of liquor, and fell off the railroad track and rolled down the embankment and became benumbed, died where he fell. His clothing was thoroughly soaded which indicates that he laid all Friday night in the rain and snow. He was the son of the late Stephen Craghead and, was about 58 years old. Poor Billy, he had only one enemy and that was himself. His life was tempestuous - like the night was on which the spark went out. We sympathise with his relatives.
