Description:
Before the Civil War, Elias killed a man over a election dispute. His father, Thomas put him on a fast horse and sent him to relatives in Texas. When the war broke out he ended up in the Denton Texas Cav. He deserted and returned to KY. He then joined the Union KY Cav. During a battle in TN, his unit came in combat with his old Texas unit. He was determined not to be captured. When he ran out of bullets, he picked up a fence rail and continued to fight. He was wounded but not captured.
