      1664 Rapp. Co. VA. "To all Xpian People to whom this shall come I Richard Holt of Piscatacon in the County of Rappa. Cooper send Greeting. Now know ye that I sd Richard Holt for divers good causes & valluable considerations hath given sold & confirmed to Edward Hudson of the abovesd Creek & County Planter his heirs & assignes One hundred acres of land beginning at a marked Hickory abutting upon a Swamp or Branch comonly called or Runn by the name of King's Swamp & running for the lenth thereof along the main branch of the sd Piscatacon Creek to the Eastermost part of a Marsh being between James Vaughan & the now Plantacion of the said Edward Hudson & for the breadth thereof straite out into the woods which sd land is part of 400 acres of land formerly granted by Pattent to William Denby for the transportation of Servants & sold by the sd Denby unto the sd Holt & Hudson reference being had unto the sd Pattent doth appear together with all houses edices buildings lofts barnes mills mill seats woods underwoods rivers waters fighings fowling waies moors quarryes royalties Franchiches, proffits to the sd land Premises belonging to have and hold unto the sd Edward Hudson his heirs & assignes for ever paying yearly such impositions taxes & country chares as shall be imposed & layed for the use of our Sovereign Lord the King & the sd Richd.       1693, 22 Apr. In the Name of God Amen. Aprill ye 22th 1693, I Richard Holte of Essex Co., Planter, being of perfect memory and remambrance praised be God for it, I Ordeyne this my last Will and Testamt. viz. First I bequeath my Soule into the hands of Almighty God my make houping through the mereytoruous death & passion of Jesus Christ my only Saviour & redeemer to receve free pardon for all my sins and as for my body to be beuryed in decent beuryell at the discresion of my Executrix.
      Item. I give unto my Soon, Richard Holt, twelve pence

Holt and my Soon Plunkett Holte every one of them they alike one as much as the other. Holt being then in perfect sence & memory, he did write the within mentioned Will and did see him the sd Richard Holt signe seale & publish the same as his last Will & Testament.

It is ordered that Mr. Robert Halsey, Mr. William Johnson, Francis Brown & William Leake or any three of them do on the 22nd of this Instant Mar. mete at the House of the sd deced & then & there (being first sworn) inventory and appraise all such Estate of the said deceds as shall be presented to their view by the said Exc. & its likewise ordered that she present the Inv. & appraismt. which shall be taken & made by the said appraisers to the next Court to be held for this County upon Oath and Mr. Thomas Edmondson is hereby requested to be at the time & place aforsed to swear the said appraisers (OB 1693-4 p165)
