    • Will of Joseph Powell
      In the Name of God Amen, I Joseph Powell of Fairfax County and Commonwealth of Virginia, being weak in body but of Sound Mind and Memory, and calling to mind the Mortality of Man, do make and ordain this to be my Last Will and Testament ~ which after Recommending my Soul unto God and my Body to the Earth to be buried in Christian like Manner at the Discretion of my Executors hereafter named, I direct as Follows.
      Imprimis, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Frances Powell, One Feather bed and Furniture, and one Horse Saddle and Briddle .
      Item I give and bequeath unto my son Edward Powell, One Feather bed and Furniture, and One Horse, Bridle and Saddle.
      Item I give and bequeath all the Rest and Remainder of my Estate both real and personal and the Incease thereof, unto my well beloved wife Sarah Powell, for and during the term of her Natural Life or Widowhood and after the Experation of that term ( as the case may be) I intend the same and every part thereof to be divided between and among all my children.
      Item it is my Will and desire and I do hereby direct that after the death or Marriage of my Wife, that all and singular my Estate both real and personal Except the before Mentioned Legacies to my son Edward and my daughter Frances be Equally divided among and between my Following Children Niz. Elizabeth Dulin, William Powell, Winifred Midleton, John Powell, Joseph Powell Jun., Sarah Leath, Frances Powell and Edward Powell and their Heirs Forever and lastly I appoint my wife Sarah Powell Executrix and my Son Joseph Powell Jun. Executor of this my last Will, Revoking all former and other wills by me made Either by word or writing and confirming this and this only to be my Last and true Will in Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my Seal this 26th day of March in the year 1792.

      At a Court held for Fairfax County the 16th day of May 1803 -
      This last will and Testament of Joseph Powell Deceased was presented in Court By Joseph Powell Jun. the Executor therein named who made oath thereto and the same being proved by the oath of Richard Ratcliffe and Mordicai Fitzhugh, witnesses thereto is admitted to record and the said Executor having performed what the law requires a Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.
