    • John Martin Cave, 83, of Fulton, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999.
      Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, at the First Baptist Church in Fulton with the Revs. Stephen Sowder and Raymond McCallister officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Debo Funeral Home in Fulton.
      Mr. Cave was born Aug. 5, 1916, in Fulton to Nick Cave and Ella Pauline Martin Cave. He married Harriet Gooch on June 17, 1944, in Teheran, Iran, and she survives.
      He graduated from Hickman High School in 1934, the University of Missouri in 1938 and Harvard Law School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Persian Gulf Command. In 1994, Russian President Boris Yeltsin honored him with a commemorative medal for his service in World War II. He practiced law in Fulton and served two terms as prosecuting attorney. He served as a circuit judge for the 13th Judicial Circuit from 1965-83. He then taught business law at Westminster College from 1983-87.
      He was a member of First Baptist Church in Fulton. He served as chairman of Fulton's Charter Commission and was a member of the Human Rights Commission in Fulton and the Board for Reality House in Columbia for more than 20 years. He was a member of Fulton Rotary Club for more than 50 years.
      Other survivors include three sons, Nick Cave II of Overland Park, Kan., John Cave II of Kansas City and David Cave of Derry, N.H.; a daughter, Sara McMellen of Nixa; and eight grandchildren.
      Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Disease Research, 15825 Shady Grove Road, Suite 140, Rockville, Md., 20850-4022 or to First Baptist Church in Fulton.

    • John Cave and my father, David Herring, were good friends while growing up in Fulton. They kept in touch throughout their lives. They were 3rd cousins.
