      Mrs. Piercy A. Tate

      Whose maiden name was Hamlin [Hamblin], was born Jan. 20, 1826, and grew to womanhood on what is now known as the William Bartley place, three and a half mile southeast of Williamsburg, MO.

      She died at the home of her son, Jasper J. Tate, near Mineola, on the 17th of March 1909, aged 83 years, 1 month, and 25 days.

      November 5, 1846, she was married to Mr. Nathaniel N. Tate, with whom she lived happily until his death which occurred March 22, 1881. she make her home thereafter with her son, J. J. Tate.

      Mrs. Tate was the mother on nine children, all of whom are still living. They are Jesse T. Tate of Williamsburg, Mrs Emma C. Hendricks of Roseville, CA, Mrs Lucy Penn of Danville, MO, Newton W. Tate of Williamsburg, Mrs. Marcia H. Windsor of Woodland, CA, J. J. Tate of Mineola, W. L. Tate of Duffan, TX and Mrs. Eliza E. Bibb of Reubens, ID. There are also five step-children living; Mrs. Betsy Scott of Williamsburg, Mrs. Mildred Penn of Montgomery City, Mrs Mag Goodman of Santa Rosa, CA, Mrs. Jennie Penn of Mineola and Richard H. Tate of Mineola. Two sisters survive her; Mrs. Ann Cobb of New Florence and Mrs Orva Tate of Mineola.

      Sister Tate was for over 40 years a faithful, devoted member of Mr. Horeb Baptist church. She was very kind and amiable to all with whom she associated, and was highly esteemed by all her neighbors, friends and relatives, as well as all the members of her church, she being the oldest member of the Mt. Horeb congregation.

      She was a tender loving mother and grandmother, a noble Christian woman.

      Her funeral, in accordance with her wish, was preached by Rev. R. E. McQuie at Mt. Horeb Thursday, March 18, 1909, at 11 a.m., in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends, after which the remains were laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

      Montgomery Standard March 19, 1909

      Mrs. Nathaniel Tate, aged about 80 years, died at the home of her son J. J. Tate, near Minneola, Wednesday morning, March 17th, 1909. Heart failure was the direct cause of death. A large family of children survive her. The funeral was held at the home yesterday morning, conducted by Rev. R. E. McQuie, after which the remains were interred in the cemetery at Mr. Horeb.
