Benjamin Donald Wickell, 95, of Fulton passed away September 9, 2010 in Holts Summit. He was born August 14, 1915 in Callaway County, Missouri, the son of Benjamin Houstin and Hattie Edith (Kemp) Wickell. On August 1, 1942 he married Clois Jacqueline Rowe. She survives at their home.
Don is survived by three sons, Jerry of Mount Vernon, Washington, Allen and wife Tammy of Holts Summit, Missouri and Jon and wife Caren of Derby, Kansas; two daughters, Carol Denise Wickell and husband Steven White of Juno Beach, Florida and Cathy Wickell of Ashland, Missouri, one sister, Mary Ruth Henderson of Columbia, Missouri; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters and one daughter, Sharlyn Diane Wickell.
Don was a lifelong resident of Callaway County. He served in the Army Air-corps during WWII as a cryptographer and was a postal carrier in Fulton for nearly 30 years. He was an avid gardener, loved nature and being outdoors. A fitness enthusiast, he was a Missouri state weightlifting champion as well as international champion in the senior division. Open-minded and conversational, Don could see the other side of things, and was quick with a word or quote from Shakespeare, Franklin or Will Rogers. He taught anyone interested to play chess.
A Memorial will be held Sunday, September 26th from 1 pm until 4 pm at Central Christian Church in Fulton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Clois Wickell or Hospice Compassus c/o Debo Funeral Home, 833 Court Street, PO Box 818, Fulton, MO 65251.
