We think he probably died after 1860 even tho we have not found him on a census after 1850. On his daughter, Sarah's death certificate in 1910, the person who filled in the blank for her parents put Tom Tatum and unknown. If Thomas Tatum had died back in the early 1850's, it would be likely that his name would not have been known to this person, just as his wife, Mary's name had been forgotten over time. Just theories...

Thomas as a brother and Frances as a sister, and Lydia and William as parents, is speculation based on ages, relationships in Albemarle Co., Virginia between the Tatum, Hill, and Herring families, and the eventual movement to the same area of Missouri in the same time frame. I do not have positive proof of their relationship, it is speculation at this point. We know they were connected, just not positive how.

Wiley G. Tatum was the son of Gravett Tatum, based on information from Susan D Jones (keeper of the Deupree family history), Gravett Tatum was the son of Benjamin Tatum.

Nancy T. Tatum was the daughter of Lydia Hill and William Tatum, found in the 1850 Callaway Co. Missouri, census..
The connection of Gravett Tatum and William Tatum, is unknown, but does probably exist based on ages, relationships in Albemarle Co., Virginia between the Tatum, Hill, and Herring families, and the eventual movement to the same area of Missouri in the same time frame. I do not have positive proof of this relationship, it is speculation at this point.

9977 Isaac Taylor
Isaac Taylor was born January 6, 1838, near Shamrock, Callaway county, and died May 26, 1912, at his home in Mexico, Mo., aged 73 years. At the outbreak of the Civil war in 1861 he enlisted in the Confederate army and went out with Captain Rogers and joined General Price. He remained in active service until the close of the war, taking part in 26 hotly-contested battles and seeing scores of brave men fall.

At the close of the war he returned home penniless, and on December 17, 1867, was married to Miss Minnie M. Kemp, who still survives and who was a loving and devoted wife and helped him fight life's battle. To them were born five sons and three daughters, all of whom have lived to be honorable men and women.

Mr. Taylor was a good husband and father, a good brother and neighbor, and a good citizen and soldier. What more could he be? What more could he do? He stood firmly for the things he believed to be right, and he was grateful to his Creator and died in the fond hope of immortality. He told his wife he was not afraid to die. 1 Samuel, xvi, "For man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart." You may ask, was this a perfect man? I answer no. He may not seem altogether pure in the sight of God, but he will not be altogether defiled. He has fulfilled his mission in life and stepped off the stage of action. After we have journeyed over Life's uneven pathway and stand near its sunset, will we be able to say we have done better? Have we done as well? May God bless his momory and his name.
Issac Taylor
