From a file at the Callaway Historical Society:
Dixie was started in 1897. It consisted of the store building and the home of Mr. Walter Sappington, owner of the store. The merchandise had been in a store at Caldwell, Missouri, about three and a half miles to the northwest. There was also a pottery at Caldwell. In the spring of 1902, Mr. Walter Sappington sold the store and his residence to John C. Cave and Shannon Cave. In 1904, Mr. Sappington bought the store and residence from the Caves and continued to run it until 1910 when it was sold to Mr. John Woody and son Marvin. They ran it until about 1923 or 1924. Quincy Schreen was the next owner and he sold to his brother Fred. After a few years it was sold to Quincy Schreen and his uncle, Clinton Sparks, in 1927.
The truck business was founded by Sparks and a nephew, Quincy Schreen, in 1927 when the interest in the store was obtained. The truck line, used principally to transport livestock to St. Louis, was started with one vehicle, a Model-T Ford truck. The first run in 1927 began at 6 p.m. one day and ended late the next morning in St. Louis, with nine sows shipped on that first trip. As was the case with most Model-T owners, Sparks once suffered a broken arm while trying to crack the vehicle. The truck line in later years consisted of a pickup truck and two straight trucks, used for hauling livestock to St. Louis and to deliver feed and farm supplies to area farmers.
The interest of Quincy Schreen was purchased by Sparks in 1932 | Quincy H. Schreen

From the Pioneers of Missouri book, which is not always accurate:
Lydia married William C. Herron.
Speculation at this point:
I believe she married William Jarrod Herring for several reasons. I have not found a marriage record, so this is speculation, but it does all fit. The Herring family in Callaway county at that time often had their name spelled Herron. There was no other William Herring or Herron in Callaway, Boone, Audrain, or Cole counties of anywhere near the corresponding age of Lydia.
William married Rebecca Knight, Sept. 14, 1848. There has always been a question about their first child. She was born June 30, 1847, a year and 3 months before the marriage. There was plenty of time for William to have married Lydia Scott, had a daughter by her, she died, and he married a second time. I have found no further records of Lydia, she is not on any census in 1850 or later, I believe she died in 1847. Note: I have now found conflicting birth years for the daughter in question. Some records say 1847, some say 1849.
I will continue to search for information about this, but for right now I am going to link Lydia to William Herring. | Lydia Scott

In Pleasant Grove Cemetery (Township 49-Range 8 - Section 11-ne/se) Callaway Co., Missouri, there is a monument erected to the memory of those "murdered" by Union soldiers November 4, 1864 contains the names of: C. Adair; G. B. Allen; R. C. Davis; A. Kemp; William Key; J. P. Selby; J. St. Clair.:
"This tragedy took place at the Ham Brown barn on Four Mile Creek, west of Hatton and southwest of Gantt near the intersecton of Audrain, Callaway, and Boone Counties. Major James C. Bay's patrol of Union troops out of Wellsville, perhaps of the 67th Enrolled Missouri Militia, tracked through the snow eight or nine teenagers who had been recruited earlier by Confederate Colonel Caleb Dorsey. Bay's men followed the tracks to the Brown family barn, captured the boys, and executed them on the spot. Major Bay spared one of the youngest of the captives, sixteen-year-old J. E. Bradley, at the urging of Miss Mary A. Brown. Major Bay's men also captured eleven other southerners during this same patrol, but did not execute them". ("Official Records of the War of the Rebellion" Dept. of War, U.S. Government Printing Office, series 1, volume 41, part 4, page 479; Daughters of Union Veterans, "Missouri: Our Civil War Heritage," 1994, p. 10.)
James P. Selby was one of those killed. He is not buried here, but in Prairie Chapel Cemetery. Ten years earlier, James father, William Selby, was a trustee of the Pleasant Grove church. | James P. Selby

Callawegian Dies in California.
A letter received by W.T. Miller, of Richland, written by his sister, Mrs. Mary Trimble, of California, tells of the death of John Selby, aged 71 years, at his home at San Jose, Cal., last week, Bright's disease of the kidneys being the cause. He was a son of William Selby, who owned the farm at Earl, now belonging to J.L. Morris, and he left Callaway for the Golden state in april, 1853.
He came back to his native state once after leaving, making a visit to Callaway relatives 15 years ago, when Mrs. Haley Miller accompanied him upon his return and spent about two years at his home. He is the last survivor of a family of six children, has many relatives in the Kingdon, and leaves a widow and five children. Just last January he celebrated the golden wedding of himself and wife. | John S. Selby
