9029 Died at her home six miles east of Ashland, of consumption, Wednesday April 22, 1908, Mrs. Fannie Emmons, wife of S.P. Emmons, and daughter of Andrew Sampson, deceased. She was buried at Dry Fork churchyard Thursday at 1:00 o'clock, after funeral services conducted by Rev. G.A. Shadwick, of New Bloomfield.
She leaves a husband, three daughters and one son, five brothers and two sisters, besides many other relatives and friends with heavy hearts mourning this loss. The deceased was born near Boydsville, March 22, 1867. In early childhood she was left without a mother, but under the watchful care and guidance of a noble, faithful father, whose good traits she imbibed. She was married May 1, 1889, to Price Emmons, to this union were born four children, May, Nannie, Flossie and Vest. She was a noble woman, a faithful loving wife, an affectionate mother, and a kind sister, a helpful friend and neighbor, an humble Christian. This is enough. Of whom can we say more? We shall miss her oh, sadly, many a tear will yet be shed, many a sigh of sadness, many a lone hour spent in sorrow; may the Lord give grace to bury it, but let us not grieve or regret it. Many a day we shared her loving kindness, many a time she has helped and cheered us on our way; now she is happy and at rest. She has followed Jesus heavenward, she was ready at the call, she was not afraid to go. She called her family to her bedside and told them good bye in pleasure, for her Savior led the way.
We may follow likewise sooner or later, we do not know, but whenever that time comes if we are ready we shall not fear. Let us be humble patient and faithful; always ready, whatever may come.

9037 An Honest Man Dead.
Jack Sampson is dead. He died on last Sunday at his house in Carrington, at 1 a.m., after a protracted illness. He had been in very delicate health for some years. He emigrated to this county in 1837, was married first to Mildred Tinsley and after her death he married the widow of George Emmerson, whose maiden name was Nancy Snell. He was in all of hi family relations a model man - a true husband an a kind father - and by his liberality and generosity endeared himself to all his neighbors.

He assessed the county once many years ago - was at another time nominated on the Democratic ticket for the same office, but refused to make the race, believing that he would thereby serve the party to better advantage. He was elected to the legislature in 1864, but was refused a seat in that body, he being considered disloyal. In 1874 he made the race for County Collector and was the second man on the ticket, being defeated by a small majority by W.B. Tucker and his school fund proposition. Mr. Sampson was an honest man in the strictest sense of the word, and was in all emergencies true to the Democratic party.

He leaves a wife and a large family of children to mourn his loss.

No man, probably, has a more extended acquaintance with the people of his county than Mr. Simpson had. From the fact that he was the tallest man in the county, and an outspoken and sincere man at all times, he was probably more generally known over the county than any man in it. It would be difficult to find a man who has been a resident of this county for any great length of time who did not know Jack Sampson. In his death we have lost one of our best and most influencial citizens.
