Callaway Weekly Gazette

Sad Accident.
Monday night at 91/2 or 10 o'clock, Miss Rebecca Mirts, who had attended preaching at Mount Carmel, 3 1/2 miles southwest of this place on the Jefferson City road, accepted an invitation from Miss Callie Bybee to spend the night with the latter; and as she had gone there on horseback, both ladies mounted the animal, Miss Mirts in the saddle and Miss Bybee behind, when after going some ten or fifteen feet, the horse began kicking up or rearing and fell backward and as the ladies suppose, fell upon them, and in the effort to get up stepped upon the arm and side of Miss Mirts. Miss Bybee was sorely bruised and alarmingly stunned for some minutes, being unconscious.
Dr. Kerr, of this city, who was the physician in attendance, came in Tuesday morning from Mr. Bybee's where the ladies were taken by kind friends, who were near at hand and reports Miss Mirts seriously injured, having had one or more ribs fractured and elbow and shoulder painfully sprained - and Miss Bybee sevely injured by shock and bruises sustained by the fall. The extent of the internal injuries cannot be fully ascertained before the lapse of some days.
