From the History of Callaway County Missouri, 1884, page 619:

Martin Baskett, of Baskett and Sheley, proprietors feed and sale stable. Like so many successful business men, Mr. Baskett was brought up on a farm. There habits of industry are formed, and sober, economical ideas of living are learned, which are not often lost in after life, and which are so necessary to success in every worthy calling. He is a native of the county where thus far his able life has been spent, and was born on his father's farm on the 7th of September, 1834. Like all the youths who grew here in those early days, his school advantages were not the best, but notwithstanding that, he succeeded in acquiring a sufficient education for all practical business affairs. Brought up on a farm, that naturally became his regular occupation on reaching manhood, and he followed it with good success until he engaged in his present business.

On the 17th of January, 1855, he was married to Miss Margaret J. Bartley, a young lady of this county, born August 11, 1835. But one child is living of this union, George G., born April 29, 1858; one besides is dead. In 1877, Mr. Baskett came to Fulton and engaged in his present business. He and his partner, Mr. Sheley, have one of the best stables if not the best in the county. Their building, a substantial and neatly constructed stable 150 feet long, has a capacity for 171 horses, and is stocked with first-class teams, vehicles, etc., of all kinds. Both gentlemen are noted for their accommodating manners and fair dealing, and are liberally patronized by the public. They have some handsome turnouts that would be a credit to a city many times the size of Fulton. Mr. and Mrs. Baskett are both members of the Christian Church. They are highly respected and esteemed by all who know them.

Died.
Baynham - On March 7, 1878, Harry Baynham, infant son of Carter and Eliza Baynham.
Only a few weeks have elapsed since the mother of this little one was called to her reward in a brighter land. This little child was permitted to linger with us a short time longer to endear himself yet more tenderly to loving hearts about him who misistered faithfully to his daily wants. On the 8th of March we laid him quietly beside the once gentle loving mother, who was only permitted to linger with him a few weeks... (more but no more information included)

In Memoriam. Both the Richland church and the family of the deceased have been deeply afflicted in the death of Mrs. Harriet Blackwell Overton, wife of James L. Overton, and Mrs. Dr. R.N. Baker, formerly Sarah Fannie Overton. Mrs. James Overton was born on the 16th of May, 1809 and died on the 28th of January 1875 - Scarcely, however, had the grave been closed over her form when the iron hand of death fastened it's grasp on her daughter, the young and affectionate wife of Dr. Baker - she was married to Dr. Baker in Oct. 1873 and died on the 7th of March, 1875.
