   Notes   Linked to
7401 Scott was born near Purdin in Linn Co., Missouri, the second child of Benjamin Franklin McGee and Ida Euphemia Jamison. His father and Mother were both born near Carrington in the years 1853 and 1857, respectively. Scott's mother died a few days after his birth, so his aunt Lucy Jamison Renoe and husband Lawrence E. Renoe took him to rear at their home near Carrington. He remained in Callaway County the rest of his life.

Scott was a prominent farmer, known especially for his interest in livestock and for his raising of cattle and registered sheep. Both he and his wife were dedicated and active members of the Carrington Baptist Church, interested in all community affairs and the Democratic political party.
Jamison Scott McGhee

7402 Myrtle Walker Niedergerke, 92, of Fulton, died Thursday, February 17, 2005 at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
She was born, Feb. 17, 1913, the daughter of Jamison Scott & Susan (Kemp) McGhee. She married Raymond A. Walker. He preceded her in death. She later married T. Gordon Niedergerke. He, also, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 22, at the First Baptist Church in Fulton, Rev. Steven Sowder, Rev. Raymond McCallister, and Rev. John Hoos officiating. Burial in Carrington Cemetery.
Family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Debo Funeral Home in Fulton.
Memorials are suggested to the Carrington Cemetery and Central MO Kidney Assoc.
Myrtle Mae McGhee

7403 Scott and Susan had one child, Myrtle Mae McGhee, who was first married to Raymond A. Walker and later to Gordon Niedergerke. Scott and Susan had one grandson, James Scott Walker and one great grandson, James Scott Walker II.

Myrtle has been a well known teacher in the rural school of Callaway County and in the Fulton public schools. She taught a total of forty-three years in this county, the last twenty two years in Fulton Junior High. In 1975 she was chosen as an outstanding educator in the Who's Who in Missouri Education. She is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma (an honorary teachers' organization), Daughters of American Revolution and several civic clubs. Both Gordon and Myrtle are active members of the First Baptist Church in Fulton.

7411 At her residence, near Mexico, Audrain county, Mo., Mrs. Catharine Day, consort of Lewis Day; in the 52nd year of her age.
In the death of Mrs. Day, the family circle has sustained an irreparable loss; the Methodist Episcopal church, of which she was one of its brightest ornaments, has lost one of its most ____ moments would have put to blush the skeptic and deist. The calmness and composure that sat upon her brow would have convinced anyone that, "Religion is not a cunningly devised fable: but that it enabled its possessor, like the author of it, to overstep the shadows of the grave, and ride to Paradise on a balmy cloud. Those who are left to deplore her loss, doubtless feel the sentimental truth of the poet.
God gives us ministers of love
Which we regard not living near
Death takes them from us, then we feel
That angels have been with us here.

7433 His family moved to Fulton in 1896, when he was 6 years old. His father was the Superintendent at the Missouri School for the Deaf, in Fulton, from 1896 until his death in 1911.

It appears that soon after their marriage, David and Maurine Carter McKee moved to Pennsylvania when he got a job teaching at a deaf school. His mother most likely moved with them or soon after, she was listed on his draft card as a dependent.

On June 5, 1917 he registered for the draft in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. He was teaching at the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf and lived in Edgewood Park, Pa. at that time. His wife and mother were both dependents, living with him. The paperwork says he was medium tall, slender build, brown eyes and black hair. It did not list any children.

I have not found out how he died, whether it was in WWI or some illness, but by 1920, Maurine Carter McKee was back in Missouri, living with her family, and listed on the census as a widow. She married again later that year. I have found a newspaper reference to his death in 1919, still looking for obit. Have now found his headstone in Hillcrest, next to his parents, not near his wife.

Fulton Weekly Gazette
Feb 3 1905
David Wallace McKee, son of Dr. N.B. McKee, superintendent of the School for Deaf, is going after pedestrian fame. The young man hiked it to Mexico Saturday night through a snow storm, covering the 25 miles in five and one-half hours. He started from Fulton at 5:34 p.m. and followed the railroad track nearly the entire distance. His feet are a little the worse for the walk, but otherwise he is all right.
