His parents were Michael Maloney and Nancy Bryan, both of Ireland. His son, Frazier, gave the information for his death certificate.
He died at home. His occupation was farmer.
From the Cra(i)ghead Book:
John Maloney came to Callaway Co. when a lad of 10 years, with his grandparents, who emigrated from Ireland to the United States and settled first in Erie Co.,N.Y. From there they went to Bourbon Co., Ky., but in 1856 they pushed on out west and settled in Callaway Co.
John Maloney's parents, whose names are not known, had allowed him to come to the United States with his gdparents, and intended to follow later with their other two sons. But when the Civil War started and the gdparents died, John was in the Army and did not got mail, nor write regularly. So oontact with his family was lost. The parents never arrived in Missouri.
John Maloney was a farmer, and clung to that occupation his entire lifetime. In June, 1861, he enlisted in the Third Division of the Missouri State Guards and served until the Battle of Tonkin's Ferrv in Arkansas, where he received a severe injury ~ a gunshot wound in the leg just above the ankle shattering the bone, which disabled him for further service. Prior to this he participated in the Carthage Lexington, Springfield, Moore's Mill Prairie Grove, (Ark.), and Pleasant Hill, (La.). Returning home from the Army after his recovery from his injury he resumed his farming operations and became quite successful in his chSsen occupation. He owned 260 acres of well improved land. | John Maloney

John Maloney Dead.
John Maloney, aged 73 years, died at his home, two and one-half miles southeast of Fulton, Sunday night after a long illness with chronic stomach trouble. He was taken sick a few days before the November election, but had strength enough election day to come to town to vote. After that time he was confined to his bed.
Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday morning, Rev. T.E. Winter, pastor of the Fulton Christian church preaching the sermon, and Rev. J.B. Jones, president of William Woods College assisting in the service. Interment was in the new cemetery of Fulton with the honors of the Masonic fraternity of which he was a member.
Mr. Maloney was born in county Tipperary, Ireland, April 15, 1838, and came to America in 1845, with his grandparents. He lived in New York until he was fifteen years old, and then moved to Kentucky, where he remained until 1856. In the latter year he came with William F. Baker to Callaway county, and thereafter made his home here.
He enlisted in the state guards of Missouri at the breaking out of the Civil war, and at the expiration of his term of enlistment joined the Confederate army and remained at the front until near the close of the war when he received a wound in the ankle which disabled him from further service.
Mr. Maloney was married on March 26, 1874 to Miss Mollie Craghead, a daughter of Stephen Craghead, a Callaway pioneer. She, with their three children, survive him. The children are Mrs. James D. Lamar, and Frazier Maloney, living near Fulton, and Mrs. Jesse M. Owen, of Union, Mo.
Mr. Maloney took an active interest in public affairs and was an influential citizen. He was an ardent Democrat and was always well informed on political events and policies. Warm in his friendships, upright in his dealings, true to his convictions, he made and held many friends. The procession which followed his remains to the grave, which was at least a mile long, evidenced the esteem in which he was held by neighbors and acquaintances. The Gazette extends sympathy to those who mourn his passing. | John Maloney
