6904 Marriage is a bit confusing, transcribed records show him marrying Martin, Catharine - May 24 1827. Daughter Sophia's death certificate shows her mother's name was Catherine Barton. In 1860, his wife's name was Nancy and she was too young to have married in 1827. However there is a gap between two youngest children that makes me think he married Nancy before Sophia was born. I have not found any other marriage records for Charles in Callaway county. I'm leaving all children connected to one wife, altho there were probably at least two wives, maybe three. I think the Martin was a mis-transciption, and the name was Barton. To further confuse things, in 1850 his wife's name was Margarette.

6906 BT3 US Navy, World War II. 1920 - 1982 Charles Wesley Love

6907 From the book, History of Callaway County, 1984:
Charles Wesley Love and Anna Elizabeth Bush were married in Columbia, Missouri, on May 25, 1935.

C. W., or Charlie, was born on March 21, 1911, near Williamsburg in Callaway County; he was one of six children of Edgar Love, born on October 16, 1875, in Callaway County, and Anna Hunt, a twin, born January 28, 1880, and also a Callawegian.

Anna, sometimes called Elizabeth, born April 30, 1916, near New Bloomfield, was the second of five children born to Allen K. Bush and Iva Jane Jones. Allen, born February 4, 1885, and Iva Jane, born July 9, 1887, were both born in Callaway County.

C. W. and Ann had three children: Mary Jane, Kenneth Dale, and Joyce.

After the International Shoe Factory opened on Fifth Street in December 1933, C. W. started work with the company in April 1934. He rose to the rank of foreman of the fitting room and continued with International until the factory closed in 1960. At that time both he and Anna were employed there. C. W. transferred with the company to Hannibal for thirteen months, but the call of Callaway was strong, and they returned to Fulton to enter food service at the Fulton State Hospital. Charlie retired from there on January 1, 1978.

Following the death of Anna Elizabeth, March 15, 1975, Charles married Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Payton, December 12, 1975. Betty, born in Callaway on June 24, 1921, is the daughter of William Oliver Hockmeyer, born April 4, 1882, and Mary Kathryne Backer, born October 7, 1883, both in Callaway County, was the widow of William Walter Payton, born in Fulton, June 17, 1906. Betty and William were married in St. Charles, February 27, 1943. They had one son, Ronnie Lee. Betty was also employed at the shoe factory from 1941 until its close in 1960. When she retired in the summerof 1983, she was a dietary supervisor at the Fulton State Hospital.

Betty and Charlie enjoy antiques, especially sugar shakers, and are kept quite busy quilting the many quilt tops brought them from not only Callaway, but from the neighboring counties.

6919 Two fatally struck on Interstate 70
By Brennan David
Columbia Daily Tribune
Published July 15, 2011 at 7:06 a.m.

Two men who were putting gas into a vehicle on the shoulder of Interstate 70 in Columbia were fatally struck last night, and the driver of the vehicle that hit them was taken into custody on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter.

Columbia police said the accident happened around 8 p.m. on the eastbound shoulder of the interstate near the 129.6 mile marker. The drivers of two vans had stopped on the shoulder to put gas in one of the vans when they were hit by a Toyota 4-Runner sport-utility vehicle, police said. One of the pedestrians died at the scene, and the other died later at a hospital.

Police identified the victims as Edward Taggart, 72, of Prairie Home and Gilbert Love, 73, of Auxvasse. The driver was Earl W. Hutcherson, 60, of 261 N. Rainbow Drive.

Hutcherson was arrested on suspicion of two counts of involuntary manslaughter. Police said he made statements referring to the use of a cellphone before the crash and that alcohol also was believed to be a factor. His bond had yet to be set.

Hutcherson pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in August 1985.

Love worked for much of his life in Mexico, Mo., as a diesel mechanic and also dedicated his time as deacon of the Grand Prairie Baptist Church, his family said this morning. He leaves behind a wife, three children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Love and Taggart worked together for a car auction service delivering vehicles, said Dana Bailey, 46, Taggart's daughter. The two were described as good friends and were working together at the time of the accident. They were notified that one of their fellow drivers was out of gas and were assisting, she said.

"He was a super guy, and this family is so devastated," Bailey said.

Taggart, a career salesman, leaves behind a wife, two children and two grandchildren.
