6873 Donald Eugene LEWIS was born on 4 Jun 1926 in Iowa. He died on 31 May 2004 in What Cheer, Keokuk Co, IA.

Donald served in the Navy in WWII-after that he joined the army as a Quartermaster. He retired from the service. He worked in construction work also.

Don had heart surgery - July 1, 1998

------------------------------

He and Bertie celebrated their 50th early - Nov. 4, 2000. Donald had had fluid taken off his lungs and is on oxygen full time.

Donald Gene Lewis, son of Dollie and John Lewis, passed away on Memorial Day morning, May 31. Don, having spent much time in the Army, would probably have appreciated this timing. He had been in the hospital for a few days and died peacefully. He was thought perhaps to have had a small stroke and was not in good health in general.

The service was very nice. The same minister that did Dollie's but much more personal as he knew Don. Don was in a military uniform with his medals pinned to the lid of the casket. When service was over a recording of John Philip Sousa's STARS AND STRIPES FOREVER come on. There was a military service at the grave. An elderly gnetleman gave a very dignified speech relating to military service. They gave the flag to Bertie, had a 3 gun salute and Taps. Bertie was very pleased with the whole affair and we were glad that we went.
