From the History of Callaway County book, 1884, page 220
Peter Houf, of Germany, came to America before the Revolution. He had a son named Peter, who was born in Pennsylvania, and who served as a soldier in the War of 1812. He settled in Augusta county, Virginia, where he married Mary E. Summers, by whom he had Suzanna, Elizabeth, Henry, David S. Jacob, John, Polly, James, William, Martha J., Amanda and Louisa. Mr. Houf emigrated to Callaway county in 1823, and died in 1851. His widow died in 1870. All the children except John, who died in childhood in Virginia, located in Missouri.

Harvey Howe, 77 years of age, died at his home three miles southwest of Fulton, on Wednesday, February 1, 1905, his death being caused by blood-poison resulting from a tumor back of his ear. He leaves a widow and a daughter, Mrs. Mollie Thomas. Burial occurred at Mr. Carmel churchyard, Thursday morning at 11:00 o'clock, services being conducted by Rev. C.W. Collett. They adopted and reared Williard Holman (nephew of Malinda) son of Phillip and Minerva Howe Holman, she having died shortly after childbirth from convulsions brought on by putting her feet into a tub of cold water brought by a servant. Willard b. 1867, d. 30 Mar. 1930, St.Louis, mar Ruth Poor. Aunt Lindy, very large, fell off porch at Grandma Sallie Howe Caldwell's, and was laid up for about 10 years before she died. May Caldwell lived with her for a number of years. John W. Howe (his son) was born in Fleming county Kencucky, September 26, 1837. His father, J.D. and mother, Margaret A. (Henderson) Howe, were also natives of Kentucky, who removed to Missouri in 1846 and located in Callaway county on a farm near where Mr. John W. now resides.
John D. Howe was born in N. Carolina and removed to Mt. Sterling, Ky. 1793; m (1st) Sarah Ann Purnell who d Jan. 1833. In 1847 he, with his second family, came to Callaway Co., Mo., where he farmed and also worked at the cobbler's trade. | John Dunlap Howe

From the History of Callaway County 1884 book, which is not always accurate:
John W. Howe was born in Fleming county Kencucky, September 26, 1837. His father, J.D. and mother, Margaret A. (Henderson) Howe, were also natives of Kentucky, who removed to Missouri in 1846 and located in Callaway county on a farm near where Mr. John W. now resides. The elder Howe died in 1848. He was a school teacher in those early days, and, possessing considerable musical talent, also taught vocal music. John W. was educated in the common schools of the county. January 14, 1858 he married Miss Sarah F. Wells, a member of one of the pioneer families of the county, and who was born in the neighborhood. By this marriage there was one child, Charles H. Mrs. Howe died May 8, 1867. On July 1, 1868, Mr. H. married Miss Nannie A. Turner, daughter of Mr. C.A. Turner, formerly from Kentucky. Miss Turner was also a native of Fleming county, Kentucky, and a teacher in the public schools for fifteen years prior to her marriage. By this marriage there are three children: Nannie Howard, Thomas Nesbitt, and Maggie Laura. Mr. Howe's homestead consists of 155 acres of land all fenced, and with 90 acres in cultivation. His residence is a good two-story frame building, and he has a good barn and a good youn bearing orchard. Both Mr. and Mrs. Howe are members of the Old School Presbyterian Church.

The following is from the Pioneer Families of Missouri book written in 1876, which is not always accurate:
HOWE, Rev. Joseph Howe, of Pennsylvania, was a Presbyterian minister, but unlike ministers in general, he was wealthy. At his death, he willed $20,000 to pay a church debt, and divided the remainder of his property into nine equal parts, eight of which were for his 8 children, and the 9th was to be given to "the Lord". His children were Isaac, Harvey, John D., James, Cynthia, Maria, Jane and Eliza. Isaac married JANE BOYD, and settled in Callaway co. at an early date. His children were Wallace, Thomas, John, David, Harvey, James, Jane, Margaret and Mary A. Harvey and John D., brothers of Isaac, also settled in Callaway Co. The latter was married first to SALLY PARNELL, and second to MARGARET HENDERSON.James married ANN C. BAKER. Cynthia married DAVID D. DAVIS. Maria married JAMES JAMESON. Jane married JACOB COONS. Eliza was married first to JOSEPH HENDERSON, and 2nd to MR. MCADOFF.

Mrs. B.D. Sheley Dies Sunday; Rites Tuesday Morning
Mrs. Margaret Laura Sheley, widow of B.D. Sheley, died at 2:35 a.m. Sunday at the Phillips Nursing Home, Mexico, Mo., where she had been a patient for 22 months.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Maupin Funeral Home. The Rev. William R. Seagel will officiate and interment will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens cemetery.
A native of Callaway County, Mrs. Sheley was born on November 19, 1874, daughter of John W. and Nannie Turner Howe.
She was married on March 8, 1893 to Mr. Sheley, who died a number of years ago. Mrs. Sheley was a member of the First Presbyterian Church here.
Surviving are one son, Harold Sheley, Tebbetts, a daughter Mrs. May Dean Lepp, Dallas City, Ill., a half-brother, C.W. Howe, Benton, Ark.; one granddaughter, and one great granddaughter. | Margaret Laura Howe
