Lawrence Lee "Shorty" Houchins, 69, of Fulton, Missouri, entered into heaven on Monday, June 28, 2010, at his home. He as born September 20, 1940 in Calwood, Missouri, to Robie and Goldie Mumford Houchins. Shorty was a 1958 graduate of Fulton High School. Shorty retired from AP Green in 2003 after 36 years. He was married to Linda Marie Culp on June 12, 1971, who survives at thier home.
Together they raised six children, Michelle of Fulton, Missouri, married to Floyd Harrison Jr., Mike Houchins of Sierra Vista, Arizona, married to Dawn, Velvet Dooley of Fort Worth, Texas, Denny Houchins of Fulton, Missouri, Carmen of Fulgon, Missouri, married to John Berrey, Kim of Millersbur, Missouri, married to Lance Loyd; fifteen grandchildren, Ryan, Ashley and Erika Harrison, Lauren and Sterling Dohring, Christopher and Amber Houchins, Julia, Sunny and Christian Dooley, Brittany, Jessica and Joshua Berrey, Grace and Gabriella Loyd; four brothers, Bill and Christine, John and Faye, Gene and Marcella, and Carl and Peggy, all of Fulton, Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Jack, Riley, Finis and Everett, a nephew and two nieces.
Shorty will be forever missed by his friends and family. He will be remembered as a hard working, dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Nothing was more important to Shorty than his family. His best times were when they gathered at his home to enjoy his world class barbeque. Shorty was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 2, 2010, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton, Missouri, with Pastor Steve Mallinckrodt officiating. Lewis Houchins, 62 Dies At Hospital; Rites On Tuesday
Lewis Mason Houchins, 62, of near Calwood died at the Callaway Hospital about 10 o'clock Sunday Morning. Funeral services will be held at the Ebenezer Baptist Church on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Hallie Rice and the Rev. Irvin Rice will officiate. Interment will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Norman Roberts, Maurice Hardin, Charley Guerrant, Lewis Hammett, Emmett Meador, and Jim Ed Houf. The body will lie in state at the Maupin Funeral Home.
Born in Callaway County on October 31, 1893, he was the son of William M. and Anna Roberts Houchins. He married Dessie Glascock on July 15, 1918. She survives.
Mr. Houchins was a member of the Ebenezer Church. He was engaged in farming at the time of his death. Mr. Houchins was a veteran of World War I.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three children, Mrs. Everett J. Kettle of Fulton, Mrs. Robert N. Thomas of St. Louis, and Jewell Robert Houchins of the home; a sister, Mrs. Homer Houf of Fulton; three brothers, Robie and Hord Houchins of Fulton and Kemmie P. Fern Houchins, 87, of Fulton, Missouri passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at Fulton Presbyterian Manor. She was born December 28, 1919 in Callaway County, Missouri a daughter of the late C.H. and Eula (Wright) Houchins.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by one sister-in-law, Dixie Houchins of Springfield, Missouri; two nephews, Andrew and Curtis Houchins of Springfield, Missouri; and many dear friends, including Sally Williams of Fulton, Missouri and Betty Wheeler Hall of Holts Summit, Missouri.
Fern retired from the Callaway Bank as head bookkeeper after thirty-five years with the bank. She was a member of the ABWA, National Humane Society, Callaway County Humane Society, and the Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at the Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton, Missouri with Pastor Bruce Williamson officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will be at Ebenezer Cemetery. Irene H. Kettle, 90, of Fulton, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 25, at the University Hospital in Columbia.
She was born Nov. 9, 1919, in Calwood, the daughter of the late Louis Mason and Dessi Roberta (Glascock) Houchins. She was married to Everett Jewel Kettle who preceded her in death.
She is survived by three sons, E. L. Kettle and his wife Linda, Danny Kettle and his wife Janet, and Arlin Kettle and his friend Julie Giesler, all of Fulton; one brother, J. R. Houchins and his wife Alma of Mexico MO; five grandchildren, Jeff Kettle, Joe Kettle, Jennifer Kettle, Amy Kettle Glover, and Arin Kettle; seven great-grandchildren, Josh Kettle, Tyler Kettle, Devin Russell, Cole Kettle, Taylor kettle, and Nola Glover, Michael Presley; and two great-great grandchildren, Hayley Kettle and Mason Presley.
Irene was a member of Unity Baptist Church and volunteered and participated in many activities at the church. She loved spending time with family and she was always helping anyone she could.
