Timothy Holt Dead.
Timothy Holt, 75 years old, a native of Callaway county, died at his home in New Bloomfield Monday of liver trouble. He had been in poor health more than a year but was not confined to his bed until a month ago. Funeral services were held at Hopewell Baptist church, west of New Bloomfield, Wednesday afternoon, Rev. C.A. Mitchell, of Mexico, preaching the sermon, and burial was in the church cemetery with the honors of Free Masonry.
Mr. Holt was born near Holt Summit and spent his whole life in the county. He was married in 1858 to Miss Elizabeth Clatterbuck, also fo this county, and she, with ten children, survive. The children are L. Hamilton, James W., Horace S., and A. Payne Holt, and Mrs. John Hudson, Mrs. Mitchell P. Fox and Mrs. Pearl Stewart, all of New Bloomfield; Mrs. Thomas Greenway of St. Louis; Mrs. William G. Yates, of Nebraska, and Clinton Holt of Tahlequah, Okla. Mrs. Saluda Cathrine Beaven, of Fulton, is the only surviving sister.
Mr. Holt united with the Baptist church when he was about fourteen years old, and for mmore than sixty years was a faithful follower of its teachings. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity 48 years and was considered one of the stand-bys of the New Bloomfield lodge. Mr. Holt was a man of high character and was universally esteemed in the section in which he lived as a useful citizen and good neighbor. The Gazette extends sympathy to those who mourn his passing. | Timothy Holt

Timothy Holt was born about 1753 in Virginia. He married Elizabeth Chambers, daughter of John Chambers and ? First wife (_____), on 21 July 1774. He died on 29 March 1821 in Halifax County, Virginia. He was buried in the Warren Family Cemetery, in the woods near Afton. Timothy Holt was a planter.
1774-January 26 Halifax Co VA:From Henry Chambers and John Chambers of Halifax to Thomas Stanfield of same, for ?280 a certain tract of abt 305A of land in H on Lawson's Ck adj lands of John Chambers and John Link. Signed: Henry Chambers, Jno Chambers. Wit: Robert Stanfield, Timothy Holt, James (his mark) Turner, Jonathan Gibson, Mary the wife of the said Henry, relinquished her right of dower. Rec: 4-21-1774 p42 (p264) 14 7/20
In 1778 he purchased land in Halifax County, Virginia, from James Warren, 180 acres on Warren's Creek. The deed was witnessed by James Dyal/Dial. He was included on the tax list in 1782 in Halifax County, Virginia.
In May 1782 Timothy Holt was listed on a public service claim as furnishing supplies for the Revolutionary Cause in Halifax County, Virginia. (Daughters of the American Revolution, compiler, Patriot Index, page 340)
In June 1795 William Warren, John's fourth son, and Timothy Holt, his grandson, as executors of the estate, submitted to the Person Court an accounting of the sale of John's personal property as required by the terms of the will. The total value of items sold: 140 pounds, 13 shillings, 7 pence.
1821, 1 June. Halifax Co. In performance of an order of the County Court of Halifax, for the purpose of appraising the slaves & other personal Estate of Timothy Holt, dec'd, we the undersigned commissioners having performed that duty and find the same to amount to Three Thousand, Two Hundred and Thirteen Dollars, & Fifty Four Cents as more fully appears from a Reference to the above. Given under hands this 1st day of June 1821. /s/ William Stanfield; Benj. Adams; Jno. W. Blackwell, Appraisers.
1821, 1 June. Halifax Co. (towit) The foregoing serves as an Inventory of the Estate of Timothy Holt, dec'd and is certified by us as such. /s/ Robert Holt; Robert Brandon, administrators. [ accompanied by an extensive inventory]
The burial data was received from Holland Warren, author of Warren & Related Families of NC & VA. Warren states he located the cemetery of John Warren near the village of Alton, in the woods. He believes this to have been the original plantation of John Warren, father of Elizabeth Warren, Mother of Timothy. He also states there is a grave of Elizabeth Holt, wife of Timothy.
The following is from the Pioneer Families of Missouri book written in 1876, which is not always accurate:
HOLT, Timothy Holt, of Halifax Co., VA., married ELIZABETH CHAMBERS, and they had Abner, Hiram, Robert, John, William, Lucy E., Elizabeth, Jane, and Ann. Abner married ELIZABETH BROOKS, of VA., and settled in Callaway Co. in 1819. They had Timothy, James, Robert, John, William P., Hiram, Abner, Jr., Elijah, Susan and Elizabeth C. Hiram, son of Timothy Holt, Sr., was married twice, his first wife being JANE STANFIELD, and his second, her sister, NANCY STANFIELD. He settled in Callaway Co. in 1826.
