Susan Hill Herring (wife of Jonathan Herring)
From Albemarle Co. marriage records:
Jonathan Herring (Herren?) married Susan Hill 29 Dec 1809; minister, A. Brockman; bondsman, Richard Hill; witness, Ira Garrett; daughter of Henry Hill, who gives consent; witness Richard Hill and William Herring
Susan Hill Herring was already dead when her father's will was probated in Nov. 1830
From Index to Miscellaneous Records" Albemarle Co. Courthouse, 1831:
Susan Hill Herring (wife of Jonathan Herring) was not living when her father's land was divided and so the land was to go to her heirs:
According to one Hill family researcher, the children of Jonathan Herring and Susan Hill were as follows and might have gone to Tennessee with Henry Hill Jr. We have not found any proof of this and no records of these Herring's in Tennessee.
1. William Herring
2. Frances Herring
3. Amanda Herring

Confusing bit of information, in John's obituary, it gives a surviving son named Tom. There is no record of this son on any census. He is not on 1900, he would have been born after 1900 but before 1904. On the 1900 census it says there were 4 childen born, 4 living, so he had to be born after 1900. He is not on 1910. Maggie's obituary says she leaves 6 children, a son named Tom would make the 6th child. The only reason I can think of why a child is not on the census from a very young age is that something was medically wrong with him and he was sent away to a home or school somewhere else. He is mentioned in several relatives obits, so I am sure he died exist, but accordidng to census records, he did not live at home.
From his father's obit in 1936:
Tom Hill, Staunton, Ill.
