Died, of Membranous Croup, on the 23d of March, Edward Maddox, and on the 25th, Elizabeth Scott, children of Thomas and Catherine Harrison, of this county.
Eddie was the sweet baby-boy, one year, eight months, and twenty seven days old. Lizzie was the beautiful child of six years and twenty days.
Into a large family group, hitherio unbroken, the Lord Jesus and suddenly sent his messenger and taken two of the little ones to be with Him. How deep the grief in the broken home-circle, those only can know who have suffered such loss. How happy the little ones together in the Kingdom of Jesus, in His presence and under the guardianship of angels, those only can know, who shall be accounted worthy to attain that world. In the midst of the present sorrow of those on earth, there is this source of joy, that through the grace and love of Jesus, the broken circle may be re-formed in His glorious Kingdom - and if those formed, be broken nevermore. May that grace and love enable the sorrowing ones to say-
"Father, I know Thy ways are just, Altho to me unknown. O grant me grace Thy love to trust, and cry Thy will be done."__ | Elizabeth Scott Harrison

Death of an Early Pioneer
Major John Harrison is dead. Yes, the early pioneer, the brave soldier, the good citizen and true christian in gone forever.
He arose early on the morning of the 19th ult., in his usual, good health ate a hearty breakfast, exercised himself in his morning's walk - returned to the house - took up a book, seated himself near his niece and began reading - on droppin his head a little, she asked if he was sleepy, but receiving no reply, she went to him and found his spirit had departed without a struggle or a moan.
He was of a noble family who came from the north of England at an early day - was the son of Thomas Harrison of revolutionary fame - was a blood relative of John Harrison - of the profound statesman and jurist Robt. H. Harrison - of the signer of the declaration of American Independence - Benj. Harrison and of President Wm. Henry Harrison. He was born in Botetourt County - now Roanoke, Va., on the 2nd day of October, 1791. Served as a soldier in the war of 1812, was married on the 14th of February 1816 - moved to and settled in what is now Saline County, Mo., early in 1817 - in 1819 he removed to the neighborhood of Columbia in Boone County - in 1827 he settled on Harrison's branch in Callaway County, where he remained till his death. He died at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 17 days.
Lived after his marriage 58 years and 5 days - lived with his wife 57 years 5 months and 17 days - lived in Missouri, 57 years and Callaway county 47. Survived his wife 6 months and 17 days, and was an inhabitant of earth just 2 months longer than she. He lived and died an honored member of the Christian Church and left without a known enemy in the world. | Major John Harrison

Children's Deaths Sadden Community
Death Angel Visits Three Homes in this Section in the Past Week
Little Billy Jean Hatcher, seven-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs S L Hatcher, passed away Sunday evening at an early hour after an illness of several days with pneumonia.
Her funeral was conducted at the Baptist church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev J B Scholl officiating and the little body was laid to rest in the Auxvasse cemetery. It seems sad to record a death just as the joyous Christmas season is at hand. Especially sad for a little child who had been looking forward to the coming of Santa Claus and had written her letter to him asking for a "Go-to-sleep" dolly just a week before her death. The dolly had been provided, but the little one was too ill to know of it. She was a pupil in the primary grade and was a general favorite with everyone.
The sympathy of the community goes out to the bereaved ones in their sorrow. Especially to the brothers and sister who are in far away states and were unable to be present at the last sad rites. | Billie Jean Hatcher

Auxvasse Boy Badly Hurt
Kenneth Hatcher Pinned Beneath Truck - Both Arms Broken
Kenneth Hatcher, 17 years old, son of Mr and Mrs Samuel L Hatcher of Auxvasse, was seriously injured about 3:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon when a Ford dump truck which he was driving went over a twenty-five foot embankment at Auxvasse Creek, three miles south of the town. He was pinned beneath the body of the truck and the sand and gravel which he was hauling.
He suffered a badly injured hip and two broken arms. He was taken to Callaway Hospital in Fulton by fellow employes of the Pope Construction Company, which has the contract for widening Highway 54.
----------------------
The community was saddened Friday morning when the news came from the Callaway County Hospital that Kenneth Hatcher was dead from injuries he received while driving a truck on the highway south of Auxvasse on Tuesday (May 21, 1929) afternoon. While at the time of the wreck he was known to be very seriously injured, he was so young and full of vigor, his friends were able to hope that he could recover from the injuries. However, it soon was apparent to the physicians and nurses that his injuries were to prove fatal and that he was waging a losing fight. Friday morning his spirit took flight to Him who gave it.
Kenneth, "Tubby" as all his friends called him on account of his sturdy build and genial and happy disposition, was the son of Mr and Mrs Sam L Hatcher. He was born in Bentley, N.D. on October 11, 1912 where his parents lived at that time, but moved to Auxvasse in 1919, and Kenneth grew to his young manhood in this city. He graduated from the eighth grade of the Auxvasse school just a week before his death, was liked by everyone who knew him, and had just found employment with the Pope Construction Co., being injured the first day he worked.
His funeral was conducted at Baptist church of this city Saturday afternoon by Rev S G Wood, assisted by the Reb A F Larson and his body laid to rest in the Auzvasse cemetery, south of town.
Mr and Mrs Hatcher and family have the sympathy of the entire community in their great bereavement. | Kenneth Stuart Hatcher
