4551 Miss Alma Carter Grogan Dead.
Miss Alma Carter Grogan, 25 years old, died at her home in St. Louis, Wednesday night. Her death was caused by consumption, which was hastened by an operation. Funeral services were held in St. Louis Thursday and the body was brought to Fulton, Saturday, accompanied by relatives, and burial took place in the new cemetery.
Miss Grogan was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Grogan, who formerly lived in Fulton. The death of Miss Grogan was the seventh in the family during the last ten years. Surviving Miss Grogan are two brothers and three sisters, John and Pat Grogan, and the Misses Sybil, Stella and Lucille Grogan, all of St. Louis.

Her brother-in-law, John Roach, signed her death certificate.

Death cert. says she was buried in Fulton, Missouri. There is a marker in Hillcrest near the Carter stones that says In Memory of the Grogan Family. There are no individual headstones for any of the Grogan family in Hillcrest.

4559 death cert. sure looks like he could be a son of my Patrick and Ellen Grogan.
need an obit.
He married Stella Macklin, daughter of Thomas Macklin and Maggie (hard to read possibly Gibbons) of Ohio. Stella was born in St. Louis in 1886 and died in St. Louis in 1925.
I found a Emmett Grogan on 1900, but his parents were Mickle and Nellie. He was also a couple of years too young.
Parents listed on this Emmett Grogan's death certificate were P or T. J. Grogan and Ellen.
I didn't find this Emmett Grogan until the 1930 census, at that time he had a wife and 4 daughters, was a resturant owner in St. Louis. This Emmett Grogan's occupation at time of death was Tavern owner in St. Louis.
There is a gap in the ages between Morris and Stella Grogan, children of my Patrick and Ellen Carter Grogan, that this particular Emmett Grogan's birth fits into.

If anyone has any information on Emmett Grogan, please write to me. I am trying to find out who his parents were.

4571 In 1900, her mother was listed as having 11 children born, 9 living. I found a cemetery listing for Sturgeon Missouri and there was one Grogan listed, and that was Nellie. Her birth date fits in with the other Grogan children and the family was living in Sturgeon at that time. I do not have absolute proof, but everything points to the Nellie being a daughter. There were no other Grogan families in the area at that time. Nellie H. Grogan

4573 Famous Turfman Buried Here
Pat Grogan, for many years a figure on American race tracks, who died in St. Louis on Thursday of last week, was buried in the new cemetery in this city Monday afternoon. The burial was from the afternoon train. A short service was conducted at the grave by Rev. Fr. Gilfillen, of Jefferson City. Funeral services were held in St. Louis early Monday morning.
He was born near St. Catharine, Ontario, and ran away from home when he was fifteen years old, going to St. Louis. He spent eight years in that city, and in 1869 came to Fulton. Here he met Miss Sarah Ellen Carter, daughter of John G. Carter, at this city, whom he married the following year. He then moved to Sturgeon, Boone county, where he trained "Jennie Crews", a race mare that became famous at Missouri fairs. In 1882 he went to St. Louis and became trainer for J.D. Patton, the foremost Missouri turfman of his day. He made almost a national reputation while with Patton as the trainer of "Ethel Gray", one of the best mares ever on the American turf. Later he went into the racing business on his own account but was not successful. His later years were spent in St. Louis. He is survived by his wife, two sons and five daughters.

4574 In 1910, she was living at home, single, teaching school in the public schools.

She lived at 5832 S. Kingshighway, St. Louis in 1938, with her sister Sybil. She gave the information for Sybil's death certificate. She signed her nephew, William Grogan's death certificate in 1952. I believe he was living with her at that time.

At the home of his parents, Patrick Grogan and wife, 4595 Brilliant, St. Louis, Monday, July 11, 1904, William M. Grogan, of consumption, aged 20 years. His remains were brought to Fulton for burial Tuesday afternoon. We extend our sympathies to the bereaved family. The deceased was a nephew of John R. and William Carter of this place.

4577 He was left off the 1880 census, but does show as a son on the 1900 census.

Question on date of birth, 1900 census says 22 years old, Dec. 1877. Obituary does not give a year, but says he was 20 years old when he died in 1904. Since he was married when he died, I'm thinking he was a bit older than 20.

Death notice is published on July 11, 1904. However, it gives date of death as July 11, 1904, which is in error. It refers to him dying and already buried on Tuesday, which may mean he died the week before on July 4.

She has listed herself as a widow, however, her husband was not dead. He was not living with this family in 1900, don't know if they were seperated or divorced, but she was not a widow.

Death date and burial came from Allen family files. I cannot find a death certificate for her anywhere in Missouri, so not too sure this is correct.
