Sedan Times-Star - September 05, 1933
MR. S. K. GILPIN
S. K. Gilpin, for many years a resident of this county, departed this life at the home of his son, T. S. Gilpin at Drumright, Oklahoma, on Tuesday, September 5th, aged 84 years and 18 days. His death was due to the infirmities of age and followed a gradual decline in health extending over the past three years.
The remains were brought to Sedan Wednesday and placed in charge of H. I. Buckles, funeral director. Funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ike Short near Monett at 2 o'clock p.m. Thursday, September 7th, conducted by Rev. J. Wayne Pinaon, pastor of the Baptist church of Sedan.
Deceased was born at Marion, Indiana, July 17, 1849 and came west in 1890. He spent forty years in this county, engaged in farming in Monett community. During the past 18 years of his life he made his home with his son, T. S. Gilpin, first at Ponca City, Oklahoma, and for the past two years at Drumright, Oklahoma, after the family moved to that place.
Surviving relatives are his wife, Mrs. Eliza Gilpin, two sons, C. D. Gilpin of San Francisco, California, and T. S. Gilpin of Drumright. Oklahoma, and one daughter, Mrs. Ike Short of Monett, and six grandchildren.
Note: some of the facts in this obit do not match the records I have found. This needs more research. Eliza was living in Fulton in 1930, listed as a widow at that time. Silas was listed on the census as born in Ohio. He also married Eliza in 1884 in Missouri, obit says he came west in 1890. The numbers do not add up, he lived in Kansas for 40 years, lived with his son for 18 years, he would have had to have come west in 1875. His first wife, who he married in 1877 in Kansas, was B092 GILPIN, SILAS K 28 CHAUTAUQUA CO WALKER, LUCINDA 17 CHAUTAUQUA CO 21 OCT 1877

Death Of A Little Child
Sterling Kemper Gilpin, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Sterling P. Gilpin, died at the home of his parents in this city, Sunday afternoon, July 23, 1905 at 3:00 o'clock, of cholera infantum.
He was born on January 15, 1905, and was but little over six months of age when he died. He had been sick for about one week and showed remarkable vitality for one so young. The death of one so pure and innocent is remarkably sad at any time and the sorrowing parents and brother and sister have the sympathy of the entire community.
The funeral service was conducted at Mt. Carmel Methodist church south of Fulton, Monday morning at 11:00 o'clock, by Dr. J.L. Ayres, after which the body was laid to rest in the churchyard. | Sterling Kemper Gilpin

Death from a Fall.
On Saturday last Mr. David Gingrich, a well-to-do farmer, three miles south of this city, was at work finishing a new barn which he had lately built. Mr. Gingrich was up on the joist of the barn, fourteen feet in height from the floor, putting a cross-beam into the joists for the purpose of making an opening to put grain up in the second story. The joist upon which Mr. Gingrich was standing broke down causing him to fall to the floor below. His son, Newton, who was staning on the joist with his father, jumped and caught on some boards which obstructed the fall and escaped unhurt. Mr. Gingrich never spoke after falling. He got the fall about 8 o'clock, a.m. and died at 3 o'clock p.m. His injuries were internal. A physician was promptly called but could give no relief.
Mr. Gingrich emigrated from Juniatta county, Pennsylvania, to this county in the spring of 1877. He was in his seventieth year, and was a member of the Lutheran church. His remains were taken to Mount Carmel church the Sunday following, where the funeral conducted by Rev. George W. Penn, took place. An unusually large concourse of friends were in attendance. He leaves a wdow and six children to mourn their untimely loss. Mr. Gingrich was a good citizen and neighbor and thrifty farmer and will be a loss to his family, his neighbors and the county. | David Jerome Gingrich

From the 1984 Callaway County History book:
Jacob Ellwood Gingrich son of Jacob and Martha Gingrich, was born May 6, 1882 in the home near Ham's Prairie, the house is still standing and being used as a home. Ellwood, as he wished to be called, attended Muir School where he fell in love with Madge Beaven, who later became his wife. He attended Westminster College in 1902 and 1903 and went to the World's Fair in St. Louis in 1904. He worked at the State Hospital, Fulton, Post Office and helped to install the first mail boxes of Callaway County. On December 5, 1905, he married Mauge Beaven, daughter of Theodore Beaven and niece of Judge Price Beaven all of Callaway County. Just about this time the Gingrich family dropped the "e" from Gingrich family name. Ellwood took great interest in farming, carpentry, mules and riding horses. He always exhibited mules and riding horses at County fairs. Madge was an excellent mother, seamstress, cook, and churchworker. They became members of Christian Churches and were faithful members in church work, schools, etc.
To this union were born six children: Ray, an auto mechanic; Theodore, Kansas wheat farmer; Helen Grace, teacher; Harold, an employee of Harbison Walker; Charles Beaven, elementary school principal; Robert, a teacher and Social Service worker who died in 1976. Jacob Ellwood Gingrich died March 26, 1982. He was preceded in death by his wife, Madge in December 12, 1955. They always tried to improve the area in which they lived through Church work, schools, and betterment of the human race. They have six grand children and twelve great grandchildren. | Jacob Ellwood Gingrich

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Kidwell, 84, widow of Albert B. Kidwell, died at her home at Shade Switch Tuesday night of heart trouble. She had spent the day as usual, apparently feeling well, but when she retired that night, she suffered a heart attack and died almost immediately.
Mrs. Kidwell was born in Fulton, Mo., on April 16, 1855. She spent most of her life in Callaway and Audrain counties, coming here some six or eight years ago to make her home with her sisters-in-law, Mdmes: Lily Adams and Josephine McCue, and her son, A.L. Kidwell. Her husband preceded her in death by about 15 years.
The body was taken to Auxvasse, Mo., for the funeral and burial. The Rev. W.L. Meyer accompanied the family there to conduct the services Thursday afternoon. Interment was in the Auxvasse city cemetery.
Surviving are two children, Albert L. Kidwell and Mrs. Lily Hamilton, both of whom live at Shade Switch, and four grandchildren. | Mary Mollie B. K. E. Givens
