Charles Forestel Abt 75 5 Nov 1909 Callaway Weekly Gazette

Veteran of the Civil War, Union Army
Charles Forrestal

4033 Killed Self With Pistol
Charles Forestel, Union Army Veteran, Took His Own Life.
Charles forestel, aged about 75 years, committed suicide at his home in Nichols street, this city, last Friday afternoon by shooting himself in the head with a revolver. Death was instantaneous.
After dinner, he left home to attend to business in connection with his pension, and while away visited the home of Mrs Sue Holt, in South Jefferson street, where he borrowed a pistol. Then he took a ride in an automobile with David Smith, returing home about 2:30. He went through his house and stepped into the backyard where he shot himself.
The shot was heard by his sister-in-law, Miss Minnie Judt, who found him lying with his head and body of the back porch and his feet on the steps.
Nothing was left to indicate the reason for his suicide, and the inference is that it was due to ill health. Last winter he was bedfast with rheumatism, and recently he had been suffering from the same trouble. His family relations were pleasant and up to the last moment he seemed in normal spirits.
The deceased was born in New York (he was born in Ireland) and served in the Union army during the civil war. He came to Fulton after the war, and for some years was in the saloon business. He married Miss Fannie Judt of this city, some years ago and she survives as does a sister, who lives in New York City.
A short funeral service was conducted at the home Sunday afternoon by Rev. W.W. Stoddart of the Presbyterian church, and interment was in the new cemetery.

4046 Name came from son John Frank Herring's death certificate.

I have never found a marriage record for this couple. However, their son John Franklin Herring was born before the death of Albert's first wife. John Franklin Herring's death certificate clearly gives Anna Foster as his mother. * A Foster family researcher has now given me a date for their marriage of Sept. 11, 1888.

1900 census, John F. Herring, born July 1889, living with James Foster born 1871, James Foster's mother Mary born 1836, his sister Rosa born 1878. John F. was listed as Nephew to James Foster. On John Franklin's death certificate, his mother is listed as Anna Levica Foster. She was a sister of James Foster.

On 1910, George Pollard Herring, farm laborer on James Foster farm. His death certificate lists Albert and Anna Foster Herring as his parents. In 1930, Pollard was living with Annie Sims, listed as brother. I first thought George Pollard Herring and Anna B. Herring Sims were children of Albert Herring's brother, Wm. Henry Herring. It appears they were children of Albert Herring and Anna Foster.

On 1900 and 1910, Annie was living with her Uncle, John D. Herring.

Either Anna Foster died between 1895 and 1900, or she left her family. I can't find her listed on any census in 1900. In 1910 Albert is listed as widowed, but in 1913 when he died, his death certificate shows he was married.
