3306 Mrs. Rhoda A. Blackburn wife of W. H. Blackburn deceased was born in St. Louis Co. Mo. Oct. 27, 1823. Was married Nov. 16, 1847, and died at the home of her son, G. A. Blackburn, near Readsville, Mo. Feb. 14, 1902.
She professed saving faith in Christ and joined the Methodist Church early in life, has ever remained a true and faithful christian. A purer,
better woman never lived, so kind and affectionate that to know her was but to love her. The poor and needy found in her a sympathizing friend and a willing cheerful helper.
The loss of this christian character will be shared by all who knew her, but most deeply felt by the afflicted family, consisting of seven
children, two daughters and five sons. Oh, how they miss her, and while they bow in humble submission to the will of the Almighty, they feel that her place can never be filled. Though time, with its changes may wear the traces of tears away, her place will still be vacant, the heart lonely. Nevermore may they seek the wise counsel of a kind and loving mother, or receive her blessing. Though the world turn from them, she was for them.
She was stricken with lung and stomach trouble, but all the time she was patient, resigned and without a murmer accepted the will of God.
Through many months of hopes and fears her faithful children nursed and loved her, but death regards not the yearnings of those who love, but cruelly takes from us our loved ones. This earthly life has been fitly characterized as a pilgrimage through a vale of tears; every heart has its griefs. What family circle remains unbroken? No vacant chair, voices and footsteps returning no more, alas! the rude hand of death is everywhere, we have all felt or seen this power, and while our cup of sorrow is so full over the loss of our loved ones the sweet voice of faith whispers, "What I do thou knowest not now, but thou shalt know hereafter," and trusting these promises, we should be content to wait; although the crushed heart can scarcely lift itself in prayer, yet we must bow submissively to the will of an all-wise God, who is too wise to err, too good to be unkind and too true to be unjust.
The subject of this sketch had been very feeble for some time, but was not expected to die so soon. Death comes sometimes like a thief at
midnight and takes a loved one e're we say farewell; it was thus he came this time. She did not share that happy, yet, sad farewell to her loved ones as christians often wish to do; taking each one by the hand and bidding them a sweet good bye, still, all is well, the Lord knoweth what is best for his people. All things work together for good to them that love God. She lived a useful life and has gone to her rest and reward. Bereaved, weep not God takes from us our earthly friends that we may look upon Him as he is-our very best friend and only comforter in time of trouble.
May our gracious, heavenly Father sustain and comfort the bereaved family. As we bow in bereavement and weep tears of sorrow for one
departed, let us think and feel that she is better off than we. She is waiting by the river and the writer of these lines wants to meet her, with
many loved ones gone before, just beyond the dark river that we all must cross.

3320 This page is a short synopsis of the Deupree genealogy, an ongoing attempt to locate all descendants of William Deupree (1759-1854) of Charlotte and Lunenburg Counties, Virginia. He had thirteen children, of whom ten reached maturity and left descendants. Below are the ten children, whom they married, where they settled upon leaving Virginia and some of the major family names. Each of the ten children is traced out four generations over the next ten pages. He wrote the names of his children and several of his grandchildren in a ledger book in the 1840's. He was over 80 years old and had excellent handwriting (one page example).

The family records of William Deupree (1759-1854) of Charlotte Co., VA, are written in a suede-bound ledger book, six inches wide by fifteen inches tall, and one and a half inches thick. The book was used for many purposes by William Deupree, who had a tavern on the King's Road (Route 173) and Old Courthouse Road (Route 730) south ofDeupree's Old Store picture Keysville, pictured at the right in a photograph taken in 1930. The ledger contains a few pages of tavern business, and many pages of the ongoing settlement of the estates of two of his sons who predeceased him, Overton Deupree (who died in 1832) and Moses A. Deupree (who died in 1833). There are some pages missing, and lots of blank pages. The earliest date in the book is 1832, and the latest date in the book is 1850. Several of William's youngest grandchildren practiced writing their names on the endpapers.

3330 She was not 18 when married in 1913, hard to read on marriage license, but looks like J.M. Dillard gave his consent to her marriage under 18. That would be her father, John Milton Dillard.

After Allen's death, she married his brother, Brent Herring in 1927. They may have divorced by 1942, or she may have died by then, I don't know, but Brent married again in 1942. According to Allen's death report, they had 2 children. I cannot find them on 1920 or 1930.

census says one child born, one living, but no child is listed as living with this family.

Dates on headstone are wrong, he died in 1910 not 1905. Altho 1910 census lists him as being born in 1878, and headstone has 1878, all earlier census listing children in order has 1875. The year 1878 does not fit for him, he had sisters born in 1876, 1878, and 1879. Death certificate does not list year of birth but does say he was 36 years old when he died. Since his headstone very clearly lists 1905 as his date of death and his death certificate very clearly shows he died in 1910, I'm using the logical birth date of 1875, not what is on the headstone.

His occupation at time of death was steamfitter, M.P.R.R. shop. He was killed in an accident at work.
Berry Divers of Fulton, Missouri, gave the information for his death certificate.

Mr. Divers was born in Franklin county, Virginia, January 21, 1856, and came to this county about thirty years ago. Before his removal here he was married to Miss Nannie B. Mr. Divers united with the Baptist church in his youth and lived a life of piety. He was quiet in his demeanor, but made many friends who sympathize with those who are bereaved by his death.
