E.W. Craighead Dead
E.W. (Cal) Craighead, 82 years old, died at his home in Calwood early Tuesday morning as a result of paralysis and the infirmities of old age. He had a stroke of paralysis about three years ago and was attacked with another recently. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at Ebenezer Baptist Church by the reverend J.A. Taylor, pastor of the Fulton Baptist Church. Burial was in the cemetery of the church.
Mr. Craighead was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Craighead, who settled south of Fulton in 1820. He was born south of this city and lived there until he was married to Miss Margaret Douglass, who died about forty five years ago. Later he moved to Calwood vicinity. Seven sons, two of whom are dead, were born to the first union. Those living are: Samuel E. Craighead, of Audrain County, Clyde W. and Edward of Calwood vicinity, and Felix of Utica Kansas. About five years after the death of his first wife, Mr. Craighead was married to Mrs. Jennie Suggett. To this union two daughters were born, one of whom is dead. The living daughter is Mrs. Albert Graves, near Calwood. A sister, Mrs. James May of Pettis county, is also living. Mr. Craighead was a survivor of the Civil War, being a soldier in the Confederate Army under Price.
He was a member of the Christian church, and his life was in keeping with his church relations. Many friends of the family sympathize with them in their bereavement. | Calhoun Craghead Or Craighead

Accident Caused Death.
Injuries Prove Fatal to City Assessor Charles Craghead.
City Assessor, Charles Craghead, aged 52 years, died at his home in North Jefferson street last Thursday evening from the effects of injuries received in an accident at the Chicago and Alton depot, on the morning of that day. A heavy house-moving windlass that he was assisting in putting into a coal car fell on his abdomen, injuring him internally. After the accident he walked from the car to Dr. Greene D. McCall's automobile, which was at the depot, and into his home after being taken there in the automobile.
It was the third of a series of accidents, he had been a victim of since January 9. On that day a large piece of ice fell on his foot while he was at work at Alke's meat market, fracturing three toes and a bone in the foot. The injury confined him to his home for nine weeks. About a month ago he injured the same foot while assisting in the moving a house for R.J. Gullet, on the A.I. Owen farm, one and one-half miles east of Fulton, when a derrick fell on the member. At the time of the third accident he had not fully recovered from the second injury.
Mr. Craghead was born at Ham's Prairie April 1, 1859, and was married in this city December 31, 1880 to Miss Elizabeth Maerz.
Nine children were born of the union, five surviving with the mother as follows: Forrest Craghead, Mrs. Dennis Crowson, and Mrs. H.J. Harris of Fulton, and Mrs. W.D. Eby and John Craghead of Colorado. His father J.W. (Buck) Craghead, who is nearly 80 years old and a half-sister, Mrs. William McCall, of Iola, Kan., also survive.
He was a member of the Woodmen, Odd Fellows, Maccabees and Modern Brotherhood and carried insurance to the amount of $6,000 in those orders. He was a member of the Methodist church, where funeral services were conducted at 3:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. C.H. Duncan, officiating. Interment was in the new cemetery with the rites of Odd Fellowship. Members of the other orders attended in a body. | Charles R. Craghead Or Craighead

In 1910, meat cutter in a butcher shop in Fulton. His father is living with this family, age 78. 9 children born, 5 living.
From the Cra(i)ghead of Missouri book:
"Mr. Craghead owned a grocery store at Hams Prairie, and later at Fulton, where it is said he dealt in friendships as well as groceries. By this is meant, he was ever ready to lend a helping hand to the needy, and filed many baskets that were never listed on the charge accounts. At the time of his death, he had sold his store. One day, while helping his son-in-law who was a carpenter, some house-moving equipment went awry and he was crushed, and died from the injury. He was dearly loved by all who know him. He was a member of the Methodist church, and of the I.O.O.P. lodge in Fulton."

David C. Craighead Dead.
David Crockett Craighead, 80 years old, died Tuesday evening at his home on the Judge Moore farm, four miles south of Fulton. Mr. Craighead was stricken with paralysis in July, 1913, caused by advancing age.
He was born on the David Craighead place, one and one-half mmiles south of Fulton, November 23, 1834, this land having been entered by his father, the late Solomon Craighead, and lived there until ten years ago. Since that time he has lived on the Lynes farm, south of Ham's Prairie, and on the farm on which his death occurred.
He was married February 14, 1865, to Miss Sallie F. Harding (sp), at the home of her mother, northeast of Fulton. Five children were born of the union, all of whom survive as follows: Deputy Sheriff Clarence Craighead, of Fulton; Mrs. W.S. Mirts, of Guthrie; Mrs. Alfred Jatho and Mrs. Miller Fox, southwest of Fulton, and Seth Craighead, on the home place. His wife died June 12, 1889.
Mr. Craighead lived a life of usefulness and among his friends he was regarded as a man of thrift and energy. He followed farming until advancing age necessitated his retirement from active work.
A short service was held at the family hom at 10:00 o'clock, Thursday morning, and the funeral was held at the Ebenezeer Baptist church at 2:00 o'clock Thursday afternoon, the Rev. J.A. Taylor, pastor of the Fulton Baptist church, officiating. Burial took place in the church cemetery by the side of his wife. | David Crockett Craghead Or Craighead

Died, at his home, 9 miles east of Fulton, Aug. 16th, 1883, Edgar S., son of S S. and Mattie A. Craghead, aged 12 years, 10 months and 15 days.
"It is appointed unto all to die; Where life is, death is, dominating life, Wrestling the scepter from its feeble grasp And trampling on its dust."
But few days since Edgar was in the full enjoyment of vigorous youth; now he lies in the cold, damp, mouldering grave, motionless - lifeless. How sad the sudden change! He always had a word of cheer and a smile for all he had intercourse with; he was therefore, the center of attraction both at home and in the social circle. He had never before gave cause for tears. His earthly pilgrimage had been but brief, God claimed his own in the first of his years. Oh, the yearning, the longing of the souls of father and mother! Words cannot tell one half we see, nor can we see half the anxiety of their hearts. Sometimes our afflictions seem cruel when we cannot see the purpose for which they are sent. After awhile when the time shall come for us to go hence, we will see and realize that it was the hand of mercy, and not of wrath, that afflicted us here. All things work together for good to them that love God. Although we sorrow for the dead, we should not wish him back again. He is happy now, at rest; no longer do trouble and pain molest his quiet joys.
For while he has passed
Away out of sight,
He has only passed over
To a land of delight.
Where sorrow comes not,
Where death is unknown;
Where friends will yet meet
In a sweet happy home. | Edgar S. Craghead Or Craighead
