1504 Two Deaths in Family.
John R. Foster, manager of the telephone exchange at Boydsville, folled his mother, Mrs. Mary Foster, of Mokane, in death just two hours. Mr. Foster died of congestion of the lungs at his home on Monday, and his mother died the same day of an abscess at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R.M. Clark, of Mokane.

Mrs. Foster was buried at Old Middle River cemetery Tuesday afternoon and her son was buried at Boydsville Wednesday morning. His funeral was preached by Eld. Egan Herndon, of Centralia. He is survived by four sisters and two brothers, besides his wife, two sons and one daughter.
Mary Catherine Burch

1505 Little is known about this family except that sarah Wilkes was the mother of these five children, whose father apparently died, leaving her unable to care for the children. They were bound out according to the law in Bedford County. Peyton Wilkes is said to have been born in Grayson County in 1791. This may be in error as Grayson was created from Wyth County in 1793. Birthdate is known for Peyton only-

Burdett
The story printed in this newspaper about the daughters and granddaughters of veterans of the War of 1812 ; is revealing the fact that there are quite a few still living in the Kingdom. A note from Mrs. Charles White said that she is a granddaughter of John Burdett, a soldier of the war of 1812 and her mother , Mrs. Nancy Steele, who is still living, was a daughter of Mr. Burdett.
Mrs. Steel has the pension papers of her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Burdett which showed that she received a pension for services rendered by her husband in that strife. John Burdett, who was a Virginian, of the 43rd Regiment of Virginia Militia. He secured his discharge in Richmond, Va. A description of Mr. Burdett in his pension papers, shows he was about 5 feet, 10 inches. in height. He was married in Fulton township to Miss Elizabeth Wood, March 6, 1845, by John R. Craighead, at that time a justice of the peace. Mr. Burdett had been married once before that, his first wife, having died. He died October 1, 1876. Mr. Burdett came to Callaway county from Franklin county, Virginia in 1829 and resided in the Kingdom up to the time of his death. His wife came to this county from Bedford county, Virginia, about 1844 and also lived here until her death.

1515 Thomas L. Burdett Was born in Boone county, Mo., March 5th, 1860, and died February 5th, 1897, at the home of his sister, Mrs. F.P. Smith, in Fulton, Mo. He was the son of Thos. L. and Sarah Burdett both of whom have preceeded him to the home of the faithful. Four years ago he left Callaway and took up his abode in Redbluff California where he labored in the Gass and Electric light plant for three years. Finding that his health was giving away he sought the fresh vigorating air of the mountains but after a brief stay, and deriving no benefit from the high lands of the golden state, he returned to the valley but still got no relief. He saw the once strong man fading into a pale, weak, lifeless form and realizing that the end was near, he received to spend the last of his days with relatives and friends at home. He had been at home only sixteen days when the Lord spoke peace to his sufferings and his spirit launched forth to try the realities of an unknown world. When he was approached in regard to his future prospects he said. " I have nothing to fear, I have asked the Lord for Divine help and I know he was given it." And even when his eyes had almost closed in death and he was unable to speak the writer asked him if he was still holdind fast to the Savior and he bowed his head in answer to the question. Four brothers and two sisters thou leavest behind. To await the horrors of the grave. But thou hast passed over the river of death, To Jesus, Who is abundantly able to save. Thomas L. Burdett

1516 Death of an Old Citizen-It is our painful duty this week to chronicle the sad fact that Mr. Thomas Lewis Burdett is no more. Mr. Burdett was in town Saturday and complained of being a little unwell but thought nothing particular of his illness. He got some medicine and returned home that evening. He felt as well as usual on Sunday. On Monday evening about 4 o'clock he was in the act of taking his medicine, when he went to a bed, laid down and expired without any one noticing that he was suffering the least. Mr. Burdett was born in Franklin county, Va., in 1819 and moved to this State in 1829, and has resided in this county ever since. He was a member of the M.E. Church South, for many years. He leaves a wife and a large family and many good, personal friends to mourn his sudden and unexpected death. Rev. Geo. W. Penn preached his funeral at the grave on Tuesday evening to a large and interested crowd of relatives and friends. After the funeral he was buried with Masonic honors by Fulton Lodge, No 48, A.F. & A.M. of which he was a member. The family have our sympathy in this, their hour of trouble. Peace to his ashes. Thomas Lewis Burdett

1517 He married his 2nd cousin.

Not sure what Adm means next to Ruben's name. If the father was dead it would mean he was the administrator of the estate, but that's not the case. He is listed as head of house with his parents and brothers and sisters living there. He is listed as manager of farm for occupation and his father is listed as farm labor.
