F. Martin Bryan, 92, of New Bloomfield, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Oak Tree Villa in Jefferson City. He was born January 2, 1919 on a farm west of New Bloomfield, the eighth of nine children, born to Felix and Fannie E. (Clatterbuck) Bryan.
He married the former Miss Callaway County of 1937, Ruby Rae Renner, on October 31, 1941. She survives.
Along with his wife, Martin will be fondly remembered by three children, Dr. J. Kent Bryan and wife Tolly of Melbourne, Fl., M. Renner Bryan and wife Becky of Liberty, Mo., and Susan Craighead of Holts Summit, Mo.; six grandchildren, Bobbi Baysinger and husband David of Fulton, Mo., Brett Craighead and wife LeAnn of New Bloomfield, Mo., Jerry Bryan of South Carolina, James Bryan and wife Kari of Vancouver, British Columbia, Jason Bryan and wife Katrina of St. Louis, Mo., and Kyla Leiboult and husband Matthew of Independence, Mo.; eleven great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; one sister, Helen Alu of St. Louis; one brother-in-law, Glen Renner and wife Ona of Springfield, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and three sisters.
Martin graduated from New Bloomfield High School in 1935 at the age of 16. He went into business as a service station operator in New Bloomfield on January 31, 1938.
He left the business in 1942 for duty with the United States Army during World War II. He served 42 months in the American Theatre, European African Middle Eastern Theatre and the Asiatic-Pacific campaigns. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge and one Bronze Star. One highlight was being in a full Battalion Honor Guard in 1943 for President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Martin was a Platoon Sergeant with the rank of T/SGT.
After being discharged, he served as a weight officer for the Missouri State Highway Patrol at Kingdom City for 2 years. He then returned to operate the service station in New Bloomfield. During this time he also worked as a clerk for the New Bloomfield Post Office, was an independent insurance agent and drove a bulk gasoline truck. In 1966, he became Post Master of the New Bloomfield Post Office. He served in this position until his retirement in 1985.
Martin was a charter member of the New Bloomfield Lion's Club. He served one year as president and 42 years as treasurer. He was also a charter member of the New Bloomfield Area Historical Society. He joined the Providence Baptist Church at an early age and served many years as a deacon. He enjoyed gardening, lawn mowing and ballroom dancing.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Debo Funeral Home in Holts Summit with Reverend Jim Shaver officiating. Interment will follow at Callaway Memorial Gardens in Fulton. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 pm on Tuesday, April 5th at the funeral home. Sara Elizabeth "Bryan" Loyd, 92, of St. Louis, died Thursday, February 14, 2008, at Barnes Jewish Extended Care in St. Louis, Mo. She was born on June 29, 1915, in New Bloomfield, Mo., the daughter of Felix and Fannie Elizabeth Clatterbuck Bryan.
Mrs. Loyd was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. She also volunteered at the Fox Theater in St. Louis for over twenty-five years.
She is survived by one brother and sister in law, Martin and Ruby Bryan, New Bloomfield; one sister, Helen Bryan Alu, St. Louis; eight nephews, David Bryan, John Rankin and Bob Rankin, all of Fulton, Frankie Blair and Wayne Blair, both of New Bloomfield, Kent Bryan, Melbourne, Fla., Bryan Alu, Bolder Colo., and Renner Bryan of Liberty, Mo.; three nieces, JoAnn Schultz, Lakewood, Colo., Susan Craighead, Holts Summit and Dana Kennedy, Shrewsbury, Mass.; 19 great-nieces and nephews; and numerous great-great- nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Loyd, both parents and four brothers and two sisters.
Visitation is from 1 p.m., until the time of service on Saturday, February 16, 2008, at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 16, 2008, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Fulton. Nonie Bullard, 72, Dies of Injuries Received in Fall
Nonie F. Bullard, 72, died last night at 9:15 p.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Homer Franklin, 906 Vine street. His death was due to complication following injuries received in a fall on April 11. He had undergone surgery three times at a St. Louis hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Wallace Funeral Home with interment in the Central Church Cemetery.
Mr. Bullard was born in Boone County on July 15, 1885, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Bullard. His wife, the former Mable Irene Hill, preceded him in death in 1948. He farmed in Callaway County until moving to Fulton in 1931 when he began work with the State Highway Department. He retired in September, 1956.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Franklin, Mrs. Bill Gilling of New Bloomfield and Mrs. Curtis Ismay Jr., Kirksville, Mo.; two sons, Grover T. Bullard, Wichita, Kan., and Russell Bullard, Woodland Park Colo.; and three sisters, Miss Ruby Bullard and Mrs. Hattie Gilmore, Fulton, and Mrs. Lillie Ward, Millersburg.
Also three grandchildren, Robert and Ernest Franklin, Fulton, and Charles Edward Rose, Kirksville; and two great grandchildren, Brenda Sue and Pamela Lee Franklin; and a number of nieces and nephews.
