Opal B. Gathright, 88, Jefferson City, died Dec. 12, 2001, at Capital Healthcare Center.
She was born Dec. 6, 1913, in Callaway County, a daughter of Arthur and Betty Rossen Wyatt. She was married in June 1933 in Boonville, to Leon Gathright, who died Feb. 4, 1986.
She was a telephone operator and worked at Cheseborough Ponds as an inspector until her retirement in 1978.
She was a member of the Eastern Star and Dixie Community Club.
A former New Bloomfield resident, she was a member of the New Bloomfield Christian Church for more than 40 years.
She wrote articles about New Bloomfield for the Fulton Sun.
Survivors include: one son, William Gathright, Jefferson City; three daughters, Phyllis Chenoweth, Fulton, Judy Linsenbardt, Jefferson City, and Marilyn Thomas, Camdenton; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Maupin Funeral Home, Fulton. Burial will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens, Fulton.
Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. Saturday.

Dorothy "Dot" Houchins, 93, of Fulton, died Thursday, February 1, 2007, at the Fulton Manor Care Center after an extended illness.
She was born in Callaway County Jan. 29, 1914 to the late Herman and Myrtle (Henderson) Yake. She married Ralph Houchins on April 14, 1933 in Columbia, MO by Rev. Keith, who had also performed the ceremony for her parents in 1907. Ralph preceded her in death on March 4, 1974. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Paul in 1926.
She was a graduate of Fulton High School in 1932, where she served as a cheerleader and also worked in the school library. She lived many years in Kansas City area, also Quincy, IL, and Topeka, KS before returning to Fulton in 1967.
She was a member of First Baptist Church since 1927. She was a homemaker. Her hobbies included golf and fishing, and cooking. Many of her recipes were printed in city newspapers, magazines, and a cookbook. She also enjoyed reading and traveling.
She is survived by several cousins, including Dr. Gene Henderson and his wife Barbara of Oklahoma City; James Henderson and wife Ruth of Kodak, TN; and also a lifetime friend Mildred Tyler and daughter Lyn Caffey of Austin, TX.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, Feb. 5, at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton with Rev. Stephen Sowder officiating. Family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society | Dorothy D. Yake

Benjamin Yates was born in Virginia in 1767, and died in Shelby county, Kentucky, in 1858. He was married twice ; first to Margaret Ford, of Kentucky, by whom he had John, Edith, Gilson, Nancy, Mary, Milton, Benjamin F., Jeptha and William F. His second wife was a Miss Susan Sullivan, of Kentucky ; they had no children. Yates was married first to Mary Nichols, and they had one son, George, who is a druggist at Williamsburg. His second wife was Elizabeth Dawson ; their children were Benjamin D., William, Martha (Mrs. Samuel Grant), Thomas, John and Martin; the latter is a physician. Edith, daughter of Benjamin Yates, Sr., married Theodore Drain ; their children were Stephen, Dulcinia, Emma and Franklin. Gibson Yates married Catharine Ford, of Kentucky, and they had James, John and Frances I. Mary Yates married Will Guthin, and they had six children. Nancy married H. Woods, and they had four children. Benjamin died when he was sixteen years of age. Jeptha married Eliza J. Harrison, and their children were John, Mary and Lacy J. William F. married Nancy Hopkins, and they had but one child.
