Dr. Wilkerson, who has been engaged in the active practice of his profession for nearly thirty-five years, and is one of the leading citizens as well as prominent physicians, of Callaway county, like so many of the older residents of this couny is a native of the Blue Grass State... was a son of Judge William Wilkerson and wife... Dr. Wilkerson's early years were spent on his father's farm near Fulton, his time after he reached school age being employed in study at school and assisting on the farm. But at the age of fourteen he turned his whole attention to the acquisition of an eduacation, and made such progress that he soon qualified to teach... In 1840 he entered the Missouri Medical College and continued a student in that institution until the close of the session of 48-9... Early in 1850 he went to California and did not return until 1860. The following year after his return, he attended medical college in the University of Louisville and graduated from themedical department of that insitution with high honor in the class of 61-2. Immediately after his graduation he opened an office at Fulton... In July 1881, was elected first assistant physician to the State Insane Asylum... Dr, Wilkerson has been twice married. His first wife was formerly a Miss Lou J. Baker, of this county... they were married May 18, 1865. She died in June, 1871, leaving him two children: Thomas N. and Lou J., the daughter now deceased. His present wife, formerly Miss Martha Hockaday, is the youngest daughter of Judge I.O. Hockaday, of this county. They were married May 1, 1873... one child, a son William Irvine. The Doctor and wife are both members of the Presbyterian church, and he is a member of the Masonic order....

She died 4 years after her husband married again. I am sure the husband - wives connection is correct because they are all three buried next to each other in New Bloomfield. So, either they divorced or the date on the headstone for her death is incorrect, or the transcription of the marriage record for the second wife is incorrect. | Georgie Ann Wilkerson
