Samuel Alvin West
Samuel A. West, 83 years old. a native of Callaway and a lifelong resident of the Kingdom, died at midnight, Tuesday, January 31, 1933, at his home in McCredie. He had been in failing health for the past year and his death was not unexpected. He was a member of the Richland Baptist Church, where funeral services were conducted at 2:30, Thursday afternoon folowed by interment in the Richland Cemetery.
Samuel Alvin West was born March 16 1849 on the old West homestead near White Cloud Church and was the son of pioneer parents, John Duval West and Elizabeth Newland West of Kentucky. As a young man, he attended Westminister College in Fulton and he spent his entire life in Callaway County.
He was married June 8 1876 to Miss Mary E. Craig of McCredie who survives him. They settled at Auxvasse, where the family was reared, moving to McCredie in 1910. To this union, five children were born, all of whom survive: Mrs. B.R.Potter of Waco, Texas, Mrs. R.A. Underwood of Amarillo, Texas, S.E. West of Holdenville, Oklahoma, Mrs. H.G.Baynham and A.T.West of McCredie. He also had eleven grandchildren and is survived balso by one brother, Dr. G.W.West, who lives at Eufala, Oklahoma. His life was characterized by a spirit of unselfish devotion to his family and friends and his passing will be mourned by many. | Samuel Alvin West

She is listed on the 1900 census as a daughter. This does not make sense, as her birth date is only 5 months earlier than the son, also named Pearl, who died in 1884. I have found no other records of this daughter. If she was their daughter, why would they name both a son and a daughter the same thing while both were living? The census also says 5 children born and has a 4 crossed out and 5 written in for living in 1900.
I have photographed the headstone of the son, Pearl H. White, it does say son of J.W. and S.E. White, it is together with both parents and other three brothers in the cemetery. The death date is either 1884 or 1887, but that is the only thing hard to read on the headstone. This daughter, with the same name, just does not fit. Perhaps she was an adopted child? | Pearl White

Deceased Name: Margaret Clatterbuck
Margaret Whittlesey Clatterbuck, 92, of Arroyo Grande, went to be with her Savior on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at home with her family.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at Grace Bible Church of Arroyo Grande.
Margaret was born Feb. 26, 1910, in Van Buren, Ark. She and her husband of 66 years, Marvin, served at the Oregon State School for the Deaf in Salem between the years of 1934-1973. Margaret was a kindergarten teacher in the school. Upon retirement, they served missionary children at the Ivory Coast Academy in Ivory Coast, west Africa, for three years. They lived 17 years in Stockton and the past 18 months in Arroyo Grande.
Margaret was the devoted wife of Marvin and loving mother of Phyllis, Bruce, David and Gary. She was the much-loved grandmother of six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was an accomplished artist, a prize-winning cook and a soloist. She will be greatly missed by her family and the many who were touched by her loving hospitality.
