Willis Dabney Herring was my great granduncle, the tenth child and fifth son of George Washington Herring Sr., and Lucy Simco. Willis Dabney Herring was born May 10, 1851 in Callaway County Missouri.
On June 9, 1881, he married his first cousin once removed, Lucy Emma Giboney, in Callaway Co., Missouri. Lucy went by her middle name, Emma.
Lucy Emma Giboney was born December 6, 1863 in Callaway Co. Missouri. Her parents were Peter M. Giboney and Nancy Herring. Nancy Herring was the daughter of Willis Dabney Herring's Aunt and Uncle, John and Lucy Carver Herring.
Willis and Emma had 8 children according to the 1900 census record with 2 still alive in 1900. I have only found information on 7 children:

In the 1900 census, James E. Herring, was living with his youngest brother Willis Dabney Herring and family. In 1910, this family lived in Fulton Township, W.D. was a farmer and carpetner. James E. was not living with them at this time. By the 1920 census, Willis and Emma lived in the town of Fulton on Tibbits Road. Willis Dabney Herring is living with his son Obie and family on the 1930 census, age 78.
Willis Dabney Herring died October 12, 1932 and is buried in the Herring (1) Family Cemetery, Callaway Co. Missouri. Lucy Emma Giboney Herring, died in April of 1928. Altho her headstone was not found, she is also buried in the Herring Cemetery with her husband and so many of her children. There are several unreadable headstones in that cemetery.

Mrs. Dabney Herring Dead
Native of Callaway County, Passed Away Sunday Evening at Age of 64 Years.
Mrs. Lucy Emma Herring, wife of Willis Dabney Herring, passed away at 8:45 p.m. Sunday evening at the home six miles south of Fulton from cerebral hemorrage follwing a short illness of sevral days. She was 64 years of age.
Mrs. Herring was a daughter of the late Peter and Nancy Giboney. She was born December 6, 1863 in the same neighborhood where she spent practically all of her life. she was married on June 9, 1881 to Willis Dabney Herring, who survives her. To this union, eight children were born, six of them dying in infancy.
She leaves, in addition to her husband, two children; Roy L. Herring and Obie Herring, both of Fulton, to mourn her passing. she also is survived by two sisters, Mrs. W.B. Carthright of Fulton and Mrs. Sallie Bice of Jefferson City, in addition to seven gran children and other relatives. She was a member of the Ham's Prairie Christian church.
Funeral services will be conducted at the home at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon and burial will be in the family cemetery.

W. Dabney Herring Died Late Tuesday
Native of Callaway Succumbed to Paralysis - Funeral Wednesday.
Willis Dabney Herring, 81 years old, a native and life-long resident of Callaway county, died at 5:30 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon, at his home, six miles south of Fulton, in the U.B. church neighborhood.
A funeral service was conducted at the home at 3:30 o'clock, Wednesday afternoon, by the Rev. Dr. Ira E. Adams, and burial was in the family cemetery on the home place.
Mr. Herring had been in failing health for two years. He suffered a stroke of paralysis two years ago and since that time had been gradually failing. He suffered a second stroke Tuesday.
He was born May 10, 1851, on a farm south of Fulton, the son of George and Lucy Simcoe Herring, pioneer residents who came to Missouri from Virginia. His wife preceded him in death by several years. Two sons, L. Roy Herring, with whom he was making his home, and Obie Herring, of Fulton, survive. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Mary Gannaway, 90 years old, a resident of S.t Louis. Mr. Herring was the youngest member of a family of 12 children.
Mr. Herring was a farmer and engaged in this activity throughout his life-time, except for a few years he lived in Fulton, after the death of his wife.
