Major John Harrison is dead. Yes, the early pioneer, the brave soldier, the good citizen and true christian in gone forever.
He arose early on the morning of the 19th ult., in his usual, good health ate a hearty breakfast, exercised himself in his morning's walk - returned to the house - took up a book, seated himself near his niece and began reading - on droppin his head a little, she asked if he was sleepy, but receiving no reply, she went to him and found his spirit had departed without a struggle or a moan.
He was of a noble family who came from the north of England at an early day - was the son of Thomas Harrison of revolutionary fame - was a blood relative of John Harrison - of the profound statesman and jurist Robt. H. Harrison - of the signer of the declaration of American Independence - Benj. Harrison and of President Wm. Henry Harrison. He was born in Botetourt County - now Roanoke, Va., on the 2nd day of October, 1791. He died at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 17 days.
