    • Death of an Early Pioneer
      Major John Harrison is dead. Yes, the early pioneer, the brave soldier, the good citizen and true christian in gone forever.
      He arose early on the morning of the 19th ult., in his usual, good health ate a hearty breakfast, exercised himself in his morning's walk - returned to the house - took up a book, seated himself near his niece and began reading - on droppin his head a little, she asked if he was sleepy, but receiving no reply, she went to him and found his spirit had departed without a struggle or a moan.
      He was of a noble family who came from the north of England at an early day - was the son of Thomas Harrison of revolutionary fame - was a blood relative of John Harrison - of the profound statesman and jurist Robt. H. Harrison - of the signer of the declaration of American Independence - Benj. Harrison and of President Wm. Henry Harrison. He was born in Botetourt County - now Roanoke, Va., on the 2nd day of October, 1791. Served as a soldier in the war of 1812, was married on the 14th of February 1816 - moved to and settled in what is now Saline County, Mo., early in 1817 - in 1819 he removed to the neighborhood of Columbia in Boone County - in 1827 he settled on Harrison's branch in Callaway County, where he remained till his death. He died at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 17 days.
      Lived after his marriage 58 years and 5 days - lived with his wife 57 years 5 months and 17 days - lived in Missouri, 57 years and Callaway county 47. Survived his wife 6 months and 17 days, and was an inhabitant of earth just 2 months longer than she. He lived and died an honored member of the Christian Church and left without a known enemy in the world.
