- Mrs. James S. Guthrie Dead
Callaway Woman Passed Away at New Bloomfield Home After a Lingering Illness.
An illness of seven months duration, caused by heart trouble and dropsy, resulted in the death of Mrs. James S. Guthrie, 68 years old, which occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G.P. Sanders, in New Bloomfield, at 3:00 o'clock Tuesday morning. During her entire illness, Mrs. Guthrie's condition seemed to improve only slightly, and then only for a short time. She was moved from her home, near New Bloomfield, to her daughter's home a few weeks ago.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 o'clock Wednesday morning at the home of Mrs. Sanders, in New Bloomfield, by the Rev. R.C. Abram, pastor of the New Bloomfield Christian church, assisted by the Rev. E.Y. Ginn, pastor of the New Bloomfield Methodist church. Burial was in the cemetery at that place.
Mrs. Guthrie's maiden name was Miss Laura Murray and she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Murray. She was born and reared on the farm on which she spent her married life. She was married thirty-seven years ago to Mr. Guthrie, who, with four children, survives her. The children are; Mrs. H.D. Craighead, west of New Bloomfield; Mrs. G.P. Sanders, New Bloomfield, Leslie C. Guthrie, who lived at the home; and Claude S. Guthrie, forman of the Gazette office. One brother, William Murray, of New Bloomfield, also is living.
Mrs. Guthrie became a member of the New Bloomfield Christian church in early girlhood, and during the many years that her health permitted, she took an active interest in the welfare and activities of the church. A quiet, home-loving, motherly woman, strict in her religious scruples and tender and friendly to all, her passing is a cause for much sorrow to the large circle of friends of the family. The Gazette joins others in extending sincere sympathy to those who are bereaved.
