    • Helyn B. Yows, 90, New Bloomfield, died June 9, 1999, at Capital Region Medical Center.

      She was born Oct. 27, 1908, in Boone County, a daughter of John A. and Isabell Jane Wilson Burnett. She was married in 1935 in California, Mo ., to Carl I. "Tony" Yows, who died May 24, 1972.

      She graduated from New Bloomfield High School and attended the University of Missouri . She also attended college in Kirksville and Warrensburg. She worked for Tweedies in Jefferson City and taught in country schools in the Guthrie area and the Schumate Chapel School in Jefferson City. She was secretary to the superintendent of the New Bloomfield schools from 1967 to 1976.

      She was a member of Providence Baptist Church in New Bloomfield, where she taught Sunday school, directed the Training Union and belonged to the WMU Association. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 138 in New Bloomfield and served several times as District Deputy to the Grand Matron and Worthy Matron. She also was a member of the XYZ Club of New Bloomfield.

      She is survived by one daughter, Jane Ann Hurtt, Florissant.

      Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Providence Baptist Church. Burial will be in Dry Fork Cemetery, Guthrie.

      Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Debo Funeral Home, Holts Summit, with an Eastern Star service at 7:45 p.m.

      Memorials are suggested to the Providence Baptist Church Parsonage Fund or Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 138.
