Native of Callaway For Many Years Was Sunday School Teacher
Mrs. John Hiram Hendrix, 75 years old, died at 9:30 o'clock, Thursday evening, at her home at the north edge of fulton on Highway No. 54. Mrs. Hendrix had been an invalid for two years, but had been seriously ill the last four months, having been a patient in the Callaway Hospital in Fulton twice during that time.
Funeral services will be conducted at the First Christian Church in Fulton at 2:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon, the Rev. Dr. W. Garnet Alcorn officiating and burial will take place at Hillcrest cemetery.
Mrs. Hendrix was a daughter of William and Jane Nicolson Hunt and was born near the Old Auxvasse Presbyterian Church, being given the name of Malissa Jane Hunt at birth.
She was married in 1879 to John Hiram Hendrix and seven children were born to the union, six of whom are still living. They are: Mrs. Frederick Lewis Pond of New York City, Ralph N. Hendrix of St. Louis, Mrs. Paul C. Turner of Fulton, Samuel L (Nick) Hendrix of Fulton, William T. Hendrix of St. Louis and Marion Palmer Hendrix of Chicago. One child, Haley Wilkerson Hendrix preceded her in death.
Mrs Hendrix united with the Presbyterian church at the age of 12 years and joined the Christian church when she was married. She had always taken an active part in church work as long as her health permitted. Whe taught a Bible class of young men and women at Friendship Christian Church, in the eastern part of Callaway county, where she had made her home until ten years ago, when she moved to Fulton.
Her membership has been in the First Christian Church at Fulton for the last eight years.
Mrs. Hendrix was a home-loving woman, deeply interested in her family and friends, a consecrated Christian and a considerate neighbor, so that her passing will be mourned by many.
