- Hiram Hyten Died Friday Morning
Well Known Farmer of Callaway County Died at Home Near Carrington
Hiram Hyten, 75 years old, well known farmer and stockman of Callaway county, died at 7:30 o'clock Friday morning at his home near Carrington. He had been in failing health for a number of years and became seriously ill lat week, gradually growing worse, but death was somewhat unexpected.
Mr. Hyten became seriously ill in 1928 and was a patient for some time at the Callaway Hospital in Fulton. He later went through the Mayo Brothers clinic at Rochester Minn., and after his return home apparently was restored to good health.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Carrington Baptist church. Burial will be in the cemetery at that church.
Mr. Hyten was born in Callaway county, October 18, 1855 and spent practically his entire lifetime here except fourteen months in the west for his health. He was a son of Simpson and Eliza Boyd Hyten, pioneer residents of Callaway who came from Kentucky.
Mr. Hyten had engaged in farming and live stock raising all his life. He was married February 28, 1883 to Miss Mary Price Herring, of Callaway county, who survives. He also leaves two brothers and three sisters. They are: James Hyten, Silver Lake, Colo., Henry Hyten, Fulton, Mrs. Will Pollock and Mrs. Will Mosley, Fulton, and Mrs. Bettie Lynes, Guthrie.
Mr. Hyten was a public spirited citizen who was deeply interested in the welfare of his community. He served the Callaway Chapter of the American Red Cross as an executive committeeman for six years and annually was active in the Red Cross membership campaign. He was head of the roll call committee in his school district, Middle River, and every year was among the first to make a report of a completed canvas. In 1928, when he was ill, friends in the district who realized what the sucess of the drive meant to him, made an early canvas and put the district over the top. In 1929, Mr. Hyten took the lead again.
Mr. Hyten also served efficiently for several years as a commissioner of the Fulton Special Road District and was always interested in the road improvement campaign of the county. His absence will be keenly felt in his community and throughout the county.
