- THOMAS BLACKBURN DEAD
One of the Old Pioneer Citizens Passes over the River at 12:10 o'clock Monday morning
Died, at his home on East Asylum Street, in Fulton, Missouri, at 12:10 o'clock Monday morning, aged seventy seven years with sciatic rheumatism and bore his suffering without a murmur during all this time. He gradually and slowly grew weaker until death came to his relief early Monday morning.
Mr. Blackburn was born in Fairfax county, Virginia, on the 4th day of March, 1822, and came to Callaway county, and settled near Readsville in 1835, and has made Callaway his home up to the time of his death. He was married to Miss Annie Benson, daughter of the late Eden Benson in 1846, who preceded him to the grave 14 years ago, lacking one day. To This union were born three children, Charles E., Georgia A., and Thomas B. The two former are dead.
He leaves two sisters and one brother; Edward Blackburn, of New Florence, Missouri, Mrs. Jane Organ of Shamrock and Mrs. Margaret Darnes of Americus, Missouri. He also leaves seven grand children and one great grandson.
The funeral will take place at the Presbyterian church Tuesday morning, June 27, 1899, at 9:30 o'clock by Rev. A. A. McGeachy, after which the remains will be taken to the new cemetery and laid beside loved ones gone before.
The sympathy of the community goes out to those who have been bereaveth of father, brother and grandfather.
Mr. Blackburn was not a member of any church or lodge, but he was a kind father, good neighbor and a friend to all in distress. May his sleep be peaceful, undisturbed and serene.
Thus one by one the old pioneers pass away and soon all of those who came here when the county was but a wilderness, will have passed over the river of death, but their works will follow them.
