- Thomas Richard Brooks Dead
An Early-Day Citizen of Callaway County Passes Away at Carrington Home Friday.
Thomas Richard Brooks, 72 years old, died at 1:00 o'clock Friday morning, at his home in Carrington, after a long illness, having been in poor health for about three years. His death, which had been expected by the family for about a month, was due to heart trouble. Funeral services were held Saturday morning, in the Carrington Baptist church, conducted by the Rev. I.M. Turnage, of Mokane, assisted by the Rev. E.M. Harris, of Fulton, and burial was in the cemetery of that church.
Mr. Brooks was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Brooks, and was born on a farm near New Bloomfield. He was a resident of Callaway county all his life. Fifty-one years ago last June he was married to Miss Nancy Elizabeth Holt. Sometime after their marriage the couple moved to a farm east of Carrington, where they lived until about ten years ago, when they moved to Carrington, and Mr. Brooks engaged in the merchandise business for several years. He was a charter member of the Carrington Baptist church and was always one of its most liberal contributors. In the days before a church building was erected and worship was held in the school house at Carrington, Mr. Brooks took an active part in the activities of the church. His wife is also a charter member of the church.
Besides his wife, Mr. Brooks is survived by three children: Mrs. J.H. Emmons, Fulton; William C., Sedalia and Ashley T. Brooks, who, since his return from service in the army last July, has made his home with his parents. One brother, W.T. Brooks, of Hatton, also is living.
Mr. Brooks was one of Callaway's upright, intelligent and respected citizens. In the Carrington community and church, in which he had lived and worked for so many years, he will be greatly missed. Friends of the family in Fulton and the county extend sympathy to the family who sorrow in their bereavement.
