- John William Clatterbuck, 65 years old, cashier of the Guthrie Bank died at his home in Guthrie shortly after noon, Friday, following an attack of acute indigestion. He had suffered a similar attack previously but had recovered sufficiently to be at work in the bank again and had worked there on Thursday before his death. he was able to go about his home Friday morning but did not feel well enough to go to his work so remained at the house where the end came.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Dry Fork Baptist Church, Monday afternoon at 2:30 b Rev. H.P. Cheabens of Ashland. Internment will be in the cemetery of the church. Mr. Clatterbuck was the oldest living member of a family of 11. Older than he having died in infancy. He was the son of the late John L. and Lucy F. Clatterbuck and was born in Guthrie community May 5, 1865. he spent his entire life in or near the neighborhood of his nativity, in the mercantile business in the old trade center building in Ashland for a like period. He also was engaged in farming at several intervals and for the past fourteen years had been cashier of the Guthrie bank.
He was married in 1865 to Miss Maggie Duley, who died May 22, 1922. Three children of this union survive, Mrs. Abbie Martin, and Mrs. Dixie Whitfield, both of Ashland and Paul William Clatterbuck of New Bloomfield.
In September 1925, Mr. Clatterbuk was married to Miss Pearl Holt of Guthrie who survives.
Besides his widow and children, nine brothers and sisters are living: Mrs. SD Hudson and Mrs. Lorenzo Clatterbuck of Boone County, B.G. Clatterbuck Guthrie, RW Clatterbuck of Jefferson City, WL Clatterbuck and Mrs. OL Smith, Guthrie. There are also four grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
Mr. Clatterbuck was a modern woodman and a member of the Dry Fork Baptist Church in which he held the office of treasurer and was teacher of the men's adult class and the Sunday School class. He was known as an upright and honest business mand and one who was kind and __ to all. His passing will be noted not only by the large number of realtives, but also by a number of friends whom he formes during the many years of kindness activitiy.
