Notes |
- Signed his father's death certificate in 1911
per the Cra(i)ghead book:
Divorced, left no heirs. He was a physician at Marshall Colorado for a time, later moving to Denver where he practiced medicine and was also a druggist. He is said to buried in Auxvasse.
I found him on a listing for Grand Prairie cemetery, which is just north of Auxvasse. He is buried next to his parents.
Married but Lived Single. A Denver Couple Occupied Separate Rooms and Didn't Speak for a Year
Date: 1917-04-07; Paper: Kansas City Star
From the Rocky Mountain News, Denver
Growing weary of living single, though married, Mrs. Martha V. Craghead sued Dr. W. Spencer Craghead for divorce. The action came up for hearing in District Judge Denison's court the other day.
Mrs. Craghead's testimony revealed an odd state of affairs as between herself and husband. Though the pair lived in the same house they occupied separate rooms, and for more than a year neither spoke to the other or manifested any sign of the other's presence. The kitchen in the divided home was a sort of a "community" affair, one doing the cooking duing the absence of the other. Sometimes, however, there was a silent conflict when both wished to prepare melas simultaneously. Both depended upon the same food supply, which was ordered by Mrs. Craghead and paid for by her husband.
By her own admissions that she had remained in the same house with her husband Mrs. Craghead defeated the purpose of her suit. Judge Denison held that the couple had not lived "separate and apart" as comprehended by the divorce laws of Colorado, and that, therefore, a divorce could not be granted.
