Notes |
- Co. D. 2nd VA. CAV. C.S.A.
His parents were Samuel B. Fisher and Matilda Dearing. of Virginia.
According to the 1913 History of Northeast Missouri, as a young man in Virginia, Thomas Fisher entered the Confederate army. He was with the Second Regiment of the Virginia Cavalry, serving under General Stonewall Jackson, and was a courier on the staff of General J. E. B. Stuart until the death of that leader. After Stuart's death he served with Fitzhugh Lee till the end of the war. In Pickett's famous charge on the second day of Gettysburg he was taken prisoner and was confined in the North for eighteen months. During this time he once effected his escape, but was captured the next day. After his exchange he rejoined his command and served till the final surrender. At the close of the war he came to Missouri.
