Cemetery Records of Callaway County, Missouri Volume II
Name: Dabney C. Herring Death Date: 15 Nov 1896 Age: 67 yr., 1 mo., 3 da. Mt. Carmel cemetery
I have noticed his name listed as David several places.
From the History of Callaway County Missouri, 1884, page 665.
DABNEY C. HERRING, farmer, was born in Albemarle county, Virginia, October 12, 1829. His father, John Herring, and his mother, Lucy H., were also natives of Virginia. The father served in the War of 1812 as a drummer, and afterwards as drum-major in the State Militia of Virginia.
They removed in the fall of 1838 to Callaway county, Missouri, where he bought and improved the farm upon which he continued to reside until his death, which occurred in September, 1864. The family numbered ten sons and two daughters, of whom two died in youth and one in maturity. Dabney C. grew to manhood upon the farm, and February 26, 1857, married Miss Mary Frances Simco, daughter of Mr. R. B. Simco, a Virginian residing in the county, and whose daughter was born here.
Mr. and Mrs. Herring have seven children, namely: Louellen, wife of Mr. Wesley G. Roberts; William Thomas, Lucy Ann, Mary Price, wife of Hyram Hyten; Sally F., Eliza Emma, Ira B. and Charles Guy. In November, 1857, eight or nine months after his marriage, he bought and located upon his present farm, which consists of 135 acres nearly all fenced, and of which 120 acres are in cultivation. He occupies upon it a good one-and-a-half story residence, has a good barn and all the other necessary outbuildings. Mr. and Mrs. Herring are members of the Christian church
