occupation in 1920, farmer
Samuel and Mary are still in the same area in 1930
He lived at 1005 Nichols Street, Fulton, at the time of his death. He died at home. He was a retired farmer. His son, Oscar Carrington, of Jefferson City, Missouri, gave the information for his death certificate. Oscar did not know the names of his father's parents.
From J. Terry's files:
"Samuel left home shortly after the death of his father because his mother was sick and unable to take care of farm. He worked on a farm in Ham's Prairie for a while. Mary's father, John Miller, gave a parcel of his land to Sam and Mary. This land adjoins current county road NN. The house that Sam built there has been torn down.
Samuel is reported to have been a big man who like "ham meat and brown gravy". He is also said to have had a horse that could make the trip from his home to Fulton in 12 to 15 minutes, a distance of 7 miles. Sam farmed most of his life. He and Mary lived on the farm until the last few years of their lives when they lived with their daughter, Lillie May on Jefferson Street in Fulton."
