- Former Callawegian Died in Hannibal
John D. Herring, 78 years old, a former resident of Callaway county, died at his home in Hannibal Saturday morning at 11:00 o'clock.
A funeral service was held at Hannibal Monday morning at 10:00 o'clock and burial was in the cemetery at Mexico at 2:30 Monday afternoon.
Mr. Herring was born in Callaway county December 19, 1854 and spent his early life here. He moved from Callaway county to Mexico and from there went to Hannibal where he had been living for a number of years. He was a son of George W. and Hester Herring. Three children survive: Mrs. Harvey McKinley, Letus Herring and O.M. Herring, all of Hannibal. His wife, formerly Miss Pamelia Davis, died several years ago. One sister, Mrs. Eliza Carrington, of Fulton, also is living. Mr. Herring united with the Christian church at an early age.

His death certificate was filed in Marion county, part of Hannibal is in Ralls, part in Marion
His son Ovles signed his death certificate. They lived at the same address, 1101 Lyon, Hannibal. Ovles did know the correct names of John's parents, but did not know where they were born. Occupation at death was simply, retired.
